Oil Consumption Root Causes

Would like some feedback regarding what can be done to avoid oil consumption at higher mileage. I have a few ideas as to root cause of the consumption reported in other threads on the board:
- Leaking valve seals
- Worn rings
- Clogged air/oil separator under the intake manifold allowing oil to get sucked into the intake
From the threads I have read, engines with oil burning do not blow out blue smoke at startup which implies the issue is not the valve seals. Likewise, there are no reports of loss of power or driveability issues so may not be a ring issue. This makes me think it could be that the air/oil separator is not draining properly (clogged) and allowing oil to get sucked into the intake through the PCV. Thoughts on this?
