father to 1 glad you are making a decision that you are comfortable with
i only posted the info so you vet out all before the final decision
they are very different automobiles in many ways and i also find some things attractive

its really your taste and how you value the luxury and refinement and service
all three will be severely different in the S.
you mentioned comfort. the seat in the LS is light years ahead of the model s in ergonomics.

wish you luck and happiness in your decision

definitely don't make the switch until you spend some time in the cars, (check different models)

I have a habit of falling in love with a certain model and deciding im going to own one before ive tested it

I used to be a vette guy but then had the craving for the larger muscle/sports cars like camaro and even the challengers , after test driving a few camaros I realized they just don't do it for me, the challenger was even worse , im back in a vette again now

Tesla may look good on paper but don't jump in head first yet

regarding gas mileage we are getting nearly 30mpgs on the highway with our huge road yachts , it wont get much better then that

lol very true , I just meant that if MPG's are the concern we aren't doing too shabby in our cars

I wish you the best of luck with it, but I really do think in the long term you're going to be sorry you did this.

Here's an idea, doesn't your wife have a pretty old ES? Why not keep the LS and get the Tesla?

Obviously, but he's going to get killed on his LS because values have diminished on the LS steeply since he bought his, and his is high mileage for a 2013. If his wife's ES is old and that was a car they might consider replacing at some point, IMHO it makes more sense to replace that with the Tesla and keep the LS.

He hasn't sold it yet, but elsewhere on the forum people have been discussing values of the LS on the used market and where they're at, I know he paid something like $37k for it and it had I believe close to 80k miles on it at the time. Resale value is going to be dramatically less.

We bought the LS for $39.5K in March 2017. Best I can hope for is $25K-ish in California. Wife is attached to her 2006 ES for sentimental reasons and plans to drive it forever, plus it's just too old to sell. I'll take a hit for sure but the annual $3,000 in gas savings will offset some of that and balance out in a few years compared with keeping the LS.

Have you been given any quotes for it? I think $25K with the mileage is a high expectation. My guess is it has about 100k miles on it?

The $3k gas savings will take almost 7 years to make up the loss, no way you'll keep the Tesla that long.

Just isn't any way this makes financial sense. Thats fine, it doesn't have to...just don't pretend it does

I haven't listed it yet. Basing the price on KBB and Edmunds.

There's cost associated to holding onto the LS too. But I'm not doing it for savings, just saying some of it can be offset. The LS doesn't appeal to me the same way anymore...perhaps an LS 600 would but that would still be temporary and I'd eventually move to an EV so why not do it now.

KBB trade in value is $19-20k, based on the auction prices Dead Bird Dog has listed, my guess is its probably worth $21-22k private owner sale. The cost of hanging on to the LS doesn't compare to the cost of doing this, especially when you factor in the fact that you're buying an older Tesla and we know so little about their longevity and long term reliability.

But, you gotta do what makes you happy, theres just no financial upside to this. Like I said, there doesn't have to be, lord knows I've spent a LOT of money on cars when it made no sense to do so, I just owned the fact that what I was doing made no sense lol

really tough to judge a price but i can see a rebuilt title being sold on ebay for 23K...
and another with 50K miles got offer by someone for 29K, but i believe he didnt like the big scratch on that car when he saw it in person so he didnt complete the transaction.
interestingly tho; plenty listed but not many sold...

but 25K, assuming it having good service records and paint job, sounds like a fair price.

finding a buyer however may be a different story, if thats what you mean.

What they're listed for doesn't mean anything, what matters is what they're actually selling for. Looking at for sale listings doesn't tell you that, the only verifiable data is auction transaction prices. DeadBirdDog bought a similar package car with similar miles at an auction (so thats wholesale) for like $18,000.

There is a HUGE value difference between 50k miles and 100K+ miles, that value difference is way more than $4k (comparing your example if one with 50k miles just sold for $29K).
