Default I think my brake actuator may be going bad...

So I've developed this symptom while braking, its almost like a "crunch" type feeling, started VERY sporadically but its gotten worse and now I can feel it sometimes when even pumping the brakes while I'm stopped. Going to have Lexus look at it obviously, but does that sound like the sort of symptom those of you who have had actuator failures have seen?

Car has 29,500 miles on it.

I don't get so much of a crunch, but do get more of a popping noise & it's been that way for the past 100k or so without any issue. I do also experience a pulsating noise and feeling from the pedal when at a stop and moderately pressing the brake.

Car is an 07 with approx 170k for what it's worth. I thought/hoped the brake actuator was a non-issue after 2011?

Got no signs from mine ('11 LS460) then the brake dash warning lights came on last week but still no brake problems whatsoever. Took it in to dealer and it was replaced under the 10 yr Lexus warranty. Car has 64k miles.

Oh man I hope that's not the case. I know it'll be covered under warranty, but still was hoping they had figured that out from 8-10 years ago. Would be one more thing to keep in mind if I considered going to a newer 460 than what I currently own.

If it is going bad, it would be the earliest such failure reported here.

In checking various service histories, I have seen a smattering of bad ones in the '13 and newer LS models. However, a great majority of the LS 4th generation show no such reported problem.

The 2017 is already showing signs, didn't you only get it around 2 years ago? I never heard of one starting to go that soon, that would be really disappointing if it was but it sounds odd to be going that quickly. Could also be pads/rotors, did you have a brake service done in the last few months?

Yeah I bought it new. Id started doing this VERY sporadically when it had about 10k miles on it, and its gotten progressively worse. I'll put it in and see what the dealer has to say and report back.

It almost feels like you've scuffed something in the front when braking not heavily, but significantly, but obviously that's not the case.

Pads and rotors were replaced about 4500 miles ago, had no impact. Was doing it before and doing it after.

I had a brand new 2008 that had problems with the brake actuator. The first time I realized I had a problem was when it was two days old. I was braking at a signal light when I heard a loud groan from the front of the car (kind of similar to what you say Steve where you are scraping something with your bumper). I took about four months before I was able to reliably demonstrate it to the Lexus dealer. They replaced the brake actuator and after that I never had a problem until I replaced the car four years later.

What about the brake fluid? Could be low in the pressure off

All four pads and rotors were changed at 25,000. Is that not a little bit premature?

Could be. Brake fluid is due to be changed at the upcoming service.

Just did front rotors and pads, rears are fine. Not unusual for me and such a big car.

My 2017 IS is doing the same thing short of 13,000 miles. Any ideas?

Curious to learn what the final verdict is. Very surprising for the last year of the 4Gen LS! Glad it isn't creating any safety issues and the car still stops.

So an update. Just got the car back from my independent mechanic for the 30k miles service, which includes replacement of the brake fluid. When he drove the car with me in it he felt the "crunch" as well and said it was the brake actuator (he's replaced many of them). He performed the service and now, the crunch seems to be gone. I'll drive it around some and see if it comes back before I take it to Lexus.

this has been reported before that a brake flush or bleed fixes the issue, or so I have read.
