I can be cruising down the highway and come to a downhill stretch. I'll move the shift lever over to manual mode but not downshift. The display still shows 6th gear but I can feel a deceleration. Do we have an overdrive?
Its an 8 speed transmission (the first ever actually). There's no mechanical overdrive, as is the case with most modern transmissions. There are two high speed gears though who's ratios are "overdrive" ratios, which is why when you go to manual shifting mode to get engine braking it goes into 6th gear. 7th gear is still an overdrive ratio so you wouldnt get any engine braking.
