Thoughts of Endurance vs Platinum extended Warranty?
I’m looking at a 2013 LS460L with 30k miles Ultra Lux package from lexus dealer with no issues on service record. Price is $32k. Minor front end damage that had a bumper repaint.
-Bumper to bumper Endurance warranty is $3400 for 5 years / 54k miles
-Lexus platinum is $4500 5 years / 60k miles.
I mean it’s an LS but this is my first time purchasing the vehicle without seeing the vehicle. I did have a top notch inspector do a PPI and came back with just cosmetic stuff.

I guess it depends on your risk tolerance, but from what you describe, I'd pass. Invest that $4500 and even if you have to pay for what would have been covered repairs, you should still be well ahead of the game.

I am a big proponent of having a warranty with these cars. Too complex in my opinion not to have one. Mine is a 2011 460L control arms went bad at about 75K miles. I think total cost was about $5,000? may have been more I was glad I had the warranty! All total I have easily had $10k in warranty work done plus all the interior replaced from lexus and that bill was around $12k.

If it is AWD and has Air suspension, a warranty may be a good idea though those prices are so high I don't think it is worth it. If it is RWD with no Air a aftermarket warranty is a waste of money in most cases with these cars.
If it is a hybrid then a more expensive warranty is probably worth it, those are potential money pits.

It has Air, RWD. I have a set of coilovers for the LS not installed. My current LS has 90k miles still on factory air. Dash in mint shape. I don’t have horror stories like some owners.

It really isn’t that disappointing, this is still a top-of-the-line luxury car. And those are all OEM parts with warranty billing. It’s more complex and if you expect to be able to get away with low costs when something breaks, like on an ES or GS, you bought the wrong car.
It could be worse, you could have a VANOS pump that’s known to die, or rod bearings that kill them selves like in the old V10 M5. Or an unreliable transmission. Or hydraulic suspension where the pump dies and sets you back $2.5k for the part alone. Or turbos that eat themselves, burning oil and $7k each. That’s why people here buy the LS, not the German cars.

Do you intend to install coilovers right away or do you have them in case one or more of your air suspension components fails to switch over? Either way I don't think the extended warranty is worth it especially if you already have the coilovers and know a decent mechanic. If it was AWD and Air, maybe if it covered it longer but even then I would just save the money and roll the dice especially if you already have coilovers ready to go. Just don't use the dealership if something happens, if you have decent DIY skills then it is definitely not worth it in my opinion. The hybrid is a different story, the battery/electric components alone is too expensive/scary to rolls the dice on.

When I got my car last month, I took it the Lexus dealership and they recommended a warranty plan called CustomEdge. The business manager personally suggested it and because I put less than 7000 miles a year on my car, I went with a 5 year 35K mile Custom Edge Preferred warranty ($100 deductible). It was $1595 plus tax. Covers pretty much everything. Oh and the dealership I bought it from in Palm Beach tried to sell me their warranty plan. Same deal for $4000. Talk to your local dealer.
