Question Automatic Parking Brake Randomly Disables and Engages Parking Brake

On a 2016 LS 460, the automatic parking brake feature will randomly disable and cause the parking brake to engage. This happened twice at startup and once while driving. The automatic parking brake button under the wiper control arm is not being touched.

Anyone heard of this ?

When the hold feature is engaged and being used after a programmed amount of time will disengage and the parking brake will take over. I am unsure of the time - check your manual. I do not think it is a programmable option.

I've had this happen twice while sitting in traffic at a standstill. At the time I couldn't figure out what happen and didn't realize that I had to release the parking brake to get moving again.

The Brake Hold feature is not being used.

This problem occurred once when the car was in motion.

The dealership checked it out and didn't find anything to correct.

I've watched this, and several other LS460 forums for more than 10 years. I don't recall seeing a single other report of the symptoms that you described.

You've done the right thing in seeking the help of a Lexus dealership. You might also want to make a report the the NHTSA.

And, you have to consider the possibility that you inadvertently enable the HOLD feature. I have done that.
