OEM Battery

This is the OEM 12V battery, it cost $450 worldwide. You dont want a low quality battery when it is located inside the car.. I have heard stories about batteries explode, giving out gas, sprayed out acid and destroyed cars.

Hello Dennis,
Thank you for your question. I suspect that it is rhetorical.
I'll give you my short answer: I don't think that a Lexus dealer will install an AGM battery in your LS460, even if you request it. If others have had a different experience, please let us know.

Does this apply to just the batteries that are mounted inside the car and trunk? Or does it apply to batteries that are mounted under the hood near the gasoline powered engine too?

That's probably a good move, if they have AGM batteries that can tolerate the heat. Your input is the first report that I have seen on this.
As far as I know the charging voltages for flooded cell batteries and AGM batteries remain different.

That is a really good price at a Lexus dealer and great warranty. Is 84 month full replacement or prorated? I imagine it is probably 3 years full and then prorated. Even then it is still very good.
I got Gold battery for LS430 from Advance Auto and they offer only 3 year full replacement and then nothing after that. They used to do prorated after 3 years but I guess they learned their lesson. lol

I put a Costco Interstate battery in my last ES for $89. I've used Interstate batteries for 30 years. I had a charter fishing boat in FL (intense heat) and always had long life from Interstate. Costco didn't always have Interstate for cars but because of my boat experience, I know they are quality batteries. Optima made some manufacturing changes a few years ago, reducing their quality but still expensive. In the US, dealers don't have Panasonic factory original batteries for replacement. I'd only buy from dealer if the installed price is no more than about $150 with a 3 year 100% replacement warranty. The battery is not superior to Interstate, which is also available at some auto stores and retail stores too.

The actual origin of the manufacturing process for Interstate Batteries is vague. The automotive, truck, and marine batteries are made by Johnson Controls which makes 65% of the automotive, truck, and marine batteries sold in the USA. Johnson Controls also makes the batteries for Wal-Mart and AutoZone. From Louisiana to Southern California the Interstate brand batteries are made by a Johnson Controls manufacturing plant in Monterrey, Mexico. In the other states, the batteries are made by Johnson Controls in the United States.
That said I think they are a fine battery.
