Bought my 08 LS in 2014 at 49 y/o. Our first Lexus was 05 RX330 (my son drives it now with 233K mi) bought brand new. 2nd Lexus was an 07 IS250 (totaled in 2014). Newest Lexus in the stable is a 2017 ES350. Previously owned vehicles were all Toyotas; '97 Sienna Limited, '99 4Runner Limited and '01 Sequoia Limited. So we pretty much stay with the Toyota brand and gradually upgraded to "Lexury" Toyota.
74 here with my second Lexus L product, a 2014 LS460L AWD bought new and love this flawless car.
My first L was a 1990 LS400 bought new which was a great car I owned it for a few years before going to the dark side with Infniti Q45's .I have owned 7 of those and two M45s before I came back to the good side. My other vehicle is a QX56 which has been flawless as well for me
Flawless to me is no issues other than regular maintenance in a vehicle while I own it. Seven of my Infiniti Q45, QX56 and M45 were flawless..
I'll just start by saying that I'm 39yo... first of all, down here in South FL I don't see many LS'es anyways, and the ones that I do see appears to be driven by... let's just say... high milage people nothing wrong with that of course, but over the years that I drooled over the LS I noticed it's a choice for people with 1M+ in their 401k plans :P basically, I've never seen anyone that looked to be under 60yo to be driving one...
so, any guys/gals under 40 here? 35? 30 (gasp!)?
OK MVORBRODT, I think there's enough replies for you to do the math and tell us all the average age!
I bought a 1993 Ls400 many years ago. pearl white, beige interior with updated chrome rims. It had 80,000 miles, paid $4,300 for it. I took it to a mechanic to get it checked out. 17 year old car at the time, the mechanic says after looking at it, "not one leak in the car, unbelievable. This is one of the best cars ever built. This car was overbuilt. There are new cars made 17 years later that are still behind. I want to buy one of these cars for my daughter. You got a good one!"
Not a bad endorsement for a $4,000 car. I drove it until it had 250,000 miles then sold it for $2,000. It NEVER gave me a problem. No oil burning, no leaks, just regular maintenance. The V8 engine felt exactly the same from 80,000 to 250,000 miles. And the ride felt like I was on a cloud, I can't describe it perfectly, but the ls460 doesn't come close to the smooth feeling on the highway that the Ls400 had. Literally felt like I was floating.
That HOOKED me on Lexus. I finally bought a 2007 ls460 with 59,000 miles. I bought it at age 44, I'm 47 now. I put chrome wheels on it to make it "cooler". I feel like it's made for someone who is retired and wants to drive a solid, sophisticated, quiet ride with power and your disposal. But hey, it's really for any age.
Have a 98 LS400 and a 12 LS460 L AWD. I'm 46. The 98 seems so much better built, no creaks at 24 years old and beaten to hell and back, the 12 makes more noise. I love the little lights in the rear pillars so much better than the center and rear mirror lights in the 12. The 98 does FLOAT and for the first year I had it it kept rocking me to sleep, so comfortable. They had something to PROVE back then and did exactly that. Saving the 98 for my son when he turns 16 in a few years. Just wish engine had a chain and not a belt, don't think I'll replace and see how long it lasts. What I will say is the 98 is built like a TANK. It got hungry one day and ate a Prius. Turned left into it at about 20 MPH, my airbags did not go off. Was turning left into a busy motorway and failed to notice it crossing street on left while I was looking right to merge. Prius 0, LS400 1. I replaced light, bumper, fender same color from junk yard and tossed in new steering arm for $40 in 30 minutes. Got it aligned and as good as 22 years old for under $500! Kept hood and lines are still crazy straight!

You can tell by looking at it that the Prius is built like a tin can compared to the 400. My 430 is an overbuilt tank but some think the 400 was even more-so. Can't even imagine.

if the LS had been hit in the same place, it would look the same.
If you want to keep the car, don't roll the dice on the timing belt. Thats one of the big shames about these cars, the timing belt repair is so expensive it doesn't make sense financially to do it when they get this old. But, if the car is special to you and you want to keep it thats a different story. A broken belt will ruin the engine.
early 60's here, although people tell me all the time that i could pass for 75 . Very few ls's in my neck of the woods, so that makes me the youngest and oldest...

Depends on what it was hit by. If roles were reversed in this accident, a 2900 pound car that's built like an econocar isn't going to make a dent in the side of a 4000 pound luxury tank.

Yes it is lol, the doors will cave in. They’re designed to cave in.
Great topic. Used to be an old saying:
"Lexus LS are for people who don't like to drive".
My uncle called me in 1994 when I was driving a small Infiniti G something, 4 cyl with MT. I liked small sport sedans. He wanted me to buy his 89' 420SEL that had 33k miles on it really cheap. He wanted to buy a new LS sedan. I got my first taste of German Lux and drove that thing for 7 years until I got bored to death with it. Lovely car but I wanted to feel the road. Many nice Audi's, BMW's all done up with MT"s and sport packages later, I switched to Lexus. A recent a 2020 GS350 Fsport. Then I drove a LS500 and had to have it.
I was never interested in this car until the 2018 model and then I thought it was a bit bizarre looking inside and out. For 30 years I drove only Teutonic designed "gran Touring" machines and tuerned my nose up to the luxury barges of excess and indulgence. This LS500 was a departure from the facsimile of the s class that Lexus brilliantly implemented. Maybe thats what turns off many LS owners to the LS500 (that and preference for Luxury SUV by younger group.
The topic that Lexus appealed to an older demographic has been pretty accurate.
Lexus might have been too late and too radical with the 2018 model but that departure to appeal to a younger crowd (alianating its faithful) perhaps drew me to it. My wife thought I was nuts but upon me bringing it home but then she was like "This is niiiiiiiice in here". It is. Its not a perfect car but my 2019 bought recently with 27k miles was depreciated well that it was a high value to me.
I think Fsport has bought many younger buyers to the model that will likely be discontinued or reconstituted soon. I wanted AWD and certain color combo's are not easy to finding Fsport and mine is not.
My son who tracks cars and is really quite a car snob laughed at me. He grew up driving my nice cars. Then I picked him up at the airport and let him drive home, about 70 miles on the highway. I put some high res tunes on the ML and we chilled. He turned to me and said "have to admit, this **** is really nice, I get it, I can spend all day in here if I had to". Then I put the massage on for him and we had a good laugh.
I recall my Uncles 94 model and the Ergonomics of the drives door armrest was very suptle but so brilliantly executed. They really do the LS's of all ages so well. I see why we have so many devotee's to the model and why its potential demise is bothersome.
While I don't drive my 07 SWB(totalled) anymore,I bought it the day before I turned 40.
Went in for a 430,left with a 460.
Dove head first into a 460.
Corolla-Camry-Ls460.
Dove head first into the 460. Leapfrogging the V6 Camry,The IS and the GS.
Wasn't a bad buy at all.
