But remember, that award is based on 2017 Genesis cars, which does not include the old Equus.

As Ive said the G90 is absolutely a viable competitor to the LS, but the Equus was nowhere near as impressive as the LS.

The last production year of the Equus was 2016. Then it became the Genesis flagship brand which interestingly enough, it was there all along. The first Genesis model was supposed to be a “Mustang” competitor back in the day. It was essentially a 2+2 coupe model. Anyone remembers?.?.?.......

That was the Genesis coupe, but the Genesis sedan also was available then, it became the G80.

Hyundai tried to sell luxury cars without the brand originally.

Yes, you are absolutely right. And that was and continues to be their biggest downfall. Create a brand and a new luxury division without a dedicated “dealer network” exclusive to the Genesis flagship luxury brand/division. Big mistake, huge. That’s the reason why they are having such difficulty in establishing a “foothold” in the luxury car market. No $100,000 dollars paying customer, (right or wrong, it doesn’t matter), takes them seriously or want to be seen or be taken care of by an Hyundai Accent sells person or serviceman, even if the dealership is willing to come and get your car and leave you a loaner behind.
When one plays in that neighborhood, image is a huge part of the persona (remember VW Phaeton, a kind of rebadged A-8 and it’s $100,000+ failure?). At the end of the day who wanted to pay that kind of price for a VW.....
