Its not a big deal, its just a difference that people have to understand and takes a while to get used to.

My old commute was mainly city with some highway and I was getting around 16mpg.

The earlier versions had control arms that failed very quickly, dashboards and doorpanels that would melt like the IS, and brake actuators that can fail ($3,000 repair. $1,000+ if you DIY). If your trunk latch fails, those are over $600. The lifter motor for the trunk is about $1,000. It takes just under 9 quarts of oil. Front control arms are a wear item, due to the size of the vehicle, so you will need to factor that in to long-term ownership ($3,500 for OEM parts, $300 for the cheapest aftermarket, and probably $500 from Autozone). Tires don't last as long due to the weight, too.

So, don't buy one of these thinking you can just buy it and change the oils and tires. DIY can lower your cost, but it's still expensive and is going to require more to have than almost any of the other Lexus models.
Thank you so much I really appreciate your honesty it didn't exactly deter me from getting the car but it's definitely a reality check that it's still a luxury car and I must be prepared to take care of it

IF you are a “car guy” used to v8 RWD big cars with lots of motor from long ago cars like my dads 61 Cadillac Deville the ls460 will bring a real smile to your face. The caddy got 11.25 mpg at 88 mph interstate traveling. Like driving your sofa smooth.

The ls gets double the mpg and has more motor and brakes and power everything. Just as smooth and quiet. Caddy had bias tires. Rode totally smooth and no tire noise.

47 years later. What a car.
