What about State inspections?
My annual State inspection is due by the end of May. I'm hoping the infection rate will have fallen significantly by then but what are people doing who's State inspections are due now, at what may be the peak of infections? In North Carolina, you can't re-register your car or pay the property tax on it without an inspection. And there are penalties if you are late doing any of these.

Call your local DMV and ask? Call the county assessor and ask?

Well, here in Texas, vehicle maintenance is an essential business. I just had both my and my mother’s cars inspected and then went to a local grocery store that has a contract with the state to issue the inspection sticker and bought them and installed them today, April 9, 2020.

Inspection stations here in NJ are closed. My wife's car is due this month, but they have an automatic extension until May 31st at the moment.

Don't sweat it if you don't feel comfortable doing it. The penalties and interest probably won't amount to much. If you are concerned about that, send the estimated property tax by mail with a letter telling them what you are doing and keep copies of the check and the letter in your vehicle if you have to drive.

I replaced a 20 year old license plate last year on one of our vehicles at my own expense - about $10 - only because it looked like $#!+ and was almost unreadable after being used on at least three vehicles.

Any vehicle 10 years old or older is able to be licensed as long as you own it. Montanans are usually an independent bunch that don't desire a lot of government intrusion into there lives... thus no nanny vehicle inspections. Some still complain that the day time speed limit went from "reasonable and prudent" down to 80 mph. Some people ya just can't please!

Yes, I can get it inspected if I want to go in, talk to the guy and have them touch the steering wheel, gear shift, door handles, etc, handle my credit card and so-on. I'm not paranoid but it makes no sense to go against the scientific evidence of viral transmission.
