listen to Blackstone or changing every 7500 is safe
Quite frankly...who cares? Extending oil changes from 5,000 to 7,500 miles is not worth the hassle of sending a sample off to Blackstone. I'm sure I can go longer, the factory recommendation is 10k...but if it means 3 oil changes a year vs 2...I couldn't care less.

I rotate the tires at 5k, its just more convenient to do the oil change then vs having another service stop 2,500 miles later. I hardly think my trusted mechanic of 10 years is giving me bad advice to get the $40 out of me he charges me to change the oil (I provide my own oil and filter)

because I don't want to be at a dealer or mechanic and waste time every 5k I do 3k a month that's why with a quality filter and oil that would last 25% more than 7000 miles

Then make that decision for yourself. Mine is at the mechanic every 5k miles anyways having the tires rotated. Your situation isn't my situation and vice versa.

And I run Amsoil eA filters and high quality oil and still change it every 5k.

and putting more thought to this for the original' poster question..
instead of opinion let's use facts not opinions of when .
The manufacturer says 5k for oil changes, the car was developed in 2005 and came to market a year and half later before oil development is where it is today with detergents and non oil base stock but gas based like Penzoils Platinum synthetic. As a point for all tests have show it cleans pistons 25-40% more than other synthetics..

Facts:
Lexus/Toyota make incredibly reliable vehicles with the highest mean to failure rate of parts and engines in history of automobiles.
The v-8 in our LS most of the Time is performing at very low rpm' which is great for oil longenvity
the Toyota oil filters are good quality filters a step below a high end synthetic filter that easily go 6-7500 miles except for sandy or bad climates
Blackstone reports with many LS 460 owners show at 10k the owner and oil can go additional miles with no issues and no wear
Most owners prefer not to be at a mechanic or dealer often
The Ls 460 has a 9 quart capacity which adds to the oil being able to withstand break down
Most Ls owners do not constantly abuse or rev out there cars but drive normal and like the v8 when needed to do what they need to do

So the Question becomes "my mechanic tells me and I don't mind spending 40 dollars. or what is reasonable amount of time for a good risk / reward of no issues , no break down and no failure of components and oil..

6000-7500 is the number that makes sense.

for good reading Mobil1 published the Las Vegas field study of taxi's 5 years or 7 years ago of there Mobil 1 oil and showing how the taxis changing the oil at high intervals of 12, or 15,000 miles I don't remember what the number was showed almost no wear. Mobil 1 failed to share until someone reads the article fully that it was the EP or extended performance oil which I used on my Ls400 and ls430 for years and was a great oil. point being my mechanic would love to see me every 5k and 40 $ plus oil means nothing to most of us,

so a 5k change in good climates and relaxed driving over a low mileage 11 month or 12 month period is fine. personally I would change it low mileage every 6-8 months,
and 7500 miles is perfectly acceptable and probably best practice for the cost/wear concern and balancing out when to change and what oil to choose,
my choice is the Penzoil Platinum oils fully synthetic and natural gas based no a crude base

and I am laughing

does anyone know how to reset the oil reminder light that comes on at 5k with the yellow hazard light that I have at 5k going to 7500 how to reset it?

is there a simple way to reset it so I can go 7500 miles and not see the yellow hazard light?

2014 and later LS460s specify 10k oil changes and require 0W20 synthetic oil, not 5k and Dino 5w30 as with older LS460s...its the same engine. So as per the manufacturer the car can go 10k between oil changes just fine with modern synthetic oil and a basic Toyota filter.

So the Question becomes "my mechanic tells me and I don't mind spending 40 dollars. or what is reasonable amount of time for a good risk / reward of no issues , no break down and no failure of components and oil..

The bottom line is you are also over maintaining your engine. Who cares if its over maintained at 5k miles or 6k miles or 7k miles? Doing it at 5k miles is the most convenient for me, so thats what I do. If it wastes a little oil or costs a little more, who cares...we're both spending more changing oil than the vehicle manufacturer says we need to. Your 6000-7500 interval has no more logic than my 5k interval.

I just don't care that much about "optimizing the oil change intervals in my car", and obviously you care more about that than me. My mechanic advises against waiting until 10k despite what Lexus says because of his experience with this engine as it ages and oil use. So, I listen to him and change it sooner than 10k miles and the most convenient time for me to do that is at 5k miles when he is also rotating the tires, that reduces the number of times the vehicle has to go in for maintenance since I don't do maintenance myself. Case closed.

Should I do oil change soon?

Would it hurt the engine if I do oil change at 5k miles but after may be 12 months? In my second and previous cars I hit 5k miles every 4 to 5 months and never went over 6 months without an oil change.

I would appreciate your input.

You should change oil every six months.

Asked Lexus, they told that the 2008+ service schedule was oil Change every 9000 miles worldwide.

oil change every 9000 miles and Full Service every 18.000 miles.

Thats not what my manual says. My manual says every 10k miles and in the US manuals for 07-14 cars say every 5 k miles.

It’s all personal choices really. Whatever makes you sleep better at night.

People like me follow old school guidelines. Once a year or 5k miles. Doesn’t matter synthetic blend or full synthetic. Nowadays, I can do full synthetic oil change with oem filter for under $30.

Thats really the long and short of it.

This is what my manual says on the subject:

So according to Lexus, the oil should be changed every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you change your oil more frequently like I do, that would be 5k miles or 6 months. So, certainly if you change it every 6 months you are more than good.

Steve appreciate your thoughts, hope I shared something that all can take away in my post about oil, intervals and good practices.
appreciate your contributions to the site. after I explained I don't want to be at a mechanic every month and half your still pushing the issue with no difference going 7500. I am at dealer every 2.5 to 3 months and that's convenient to me.. not going every 45 days. changing a synthetic filter and your oil at 5k your throwing your money out. PERIOD END OF STORY... FOR ALL THOSE READING IF YOU DO ALL CITY DRIVING OR IN BAD CLIMATES WITH WIND, DIRT ETC CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 5K OR 10-12 MONTHS, OR EVERY 6 IF YOU READ THE INFO FROM WHAT STEVE SHARED... ALL OTHER SCENARIOS 5K WITH GREAT OIL IS UNECCESSARY BUT GOOD FOR THE CAR
be safe

When did I say what you choose to do is wrong? That works FOR YOU. What I do works FOR ME. I don't care about "throwing money away", its $200, its meaningless to me. In the same way you don't want to be at the mechanic or dealer every 45 days, I don't want to go AGAIN at 7,500 miles when I am already there at 5k and 10k, I don't want to wait until 10k to do the oil change so its easiest for me to do it at 5k. Waiting until 7,500 makes no sense to me because it saves me an amount of money in a year I don't care about and would cause me to have to make an additional service stop. I never said waiting until 7,500 or even 10,000 was a problem. You're the one saying what I'm doing is wrong, not the other way around.

My point was, you are ALSO over maintaining your car changing the oil at 7.5K when the manufacturer recommends 10k. So we are both "throwing money away" I just throw slightly more of it away than you do.

amen well said brother.... actually my reason for 7500 is not the oil its what you already know the filter can't handle the 10 to 12k of efficiency. the oil is fine for 10k, especially with high quality synthetic and 9 quarts of oil..

actually we did get somewhere with all this back and forth...

Steve, likes the synthetic oil filters, think he uses amsoil, with that and Mobil 1 extended performance, or Penzoil platinum or a high quality synthetic, 10 k with the synthetic filter and great oil is a good practice as well.

Here you go-

Make sure the Trip/Odometer is set to "trip A". With ignition off press and hold the reset button. While pressing the reset button, press the start/ignition button twice to turn ignition on. Keep watching the trip/odometer display to flash the lines (-----) until you see it flash the zeros (00000) then it'll read out your "trip A" again. Then you release the reset button.
