I changed the oil at the dealership after 5 months and 3000 miles for free, part of the 4 free services I get from a certified car.
I change oil whenever I feel like it, typically every 6 months because I hardly drive 5000 miles during that time, sometimes 7 months, it all depends on my mood.

5k is a good plan
As you know I have a 430 and I do use the whole tach every drive so I prefer to change it at 5k with very good oil and filter since I beat on it often.

I’m not sure if this pertain to other LS years, but this is how I reset the maintenance lights on my 2013.

If your using synthetic oil and it meets the specification for your vehicle and usage, once a year is fine if below 10,000 miles
Normal or severe service is what you need to know. The owners manual spells this very well. But here is a quick guide. If you do mostly short trips and or frequently do a lot stop and go city driving you should change your oil more frequently. Especially true in cold climates, as this is severe service.
Normal service is where a vehicle is driven on the open road for more than a half hour at a time.
Winter can be really hard on engines, condensation does form inside the engine, just like you see it coming from your tail pipe exhaust. It takes a considerable amount of time to get an engine hot enough to purge all of that excess moisture that is normally produced as a by product of internal combustion. The oil has to cope with this moisture and modern oils can provide protection up to a degree.
The point I am trying to impress upon is that summer driving down the highway is normal, short trips in very cold weather is bad news and severe. Sever service can be in any season. Do your engine a favor and free your conscious of guilt, change the engine oil often. You didn't buy a cheap vehicle (even if you had) spend the time and money on your donkey that carts you about.. I am personally of the opinion that twice a year oil change is fine, just before summer and just before winter OR mid winter mid summer?

I see these questions so often on many car enthusiasts sites. The answer is—Do what the owner’s manual says.
Due to COVID-19 I am not driving much. Bought a used 16 LS in October 2019 with 31.5k miles and now it has 34.5k miles. Drove only 3k miles in last 8 months.
Should I do oil change soon?
Would it hurt the engine if I do oil change at 5k miles but after may be 12 months? In my second and previous cars I hit 5k miles every 4 to 5 months and never went over 6 months without an oil change.
I would appreciate your input.

I appreciate everybody's input!
I am getting a free oil change (1 of 4). I will take my LS when it is close to 5k miles or 1 year for a free oil change at the Lexus dealership. I am sure they will use regular/cheap oil but I would ask them how much they would charge for synthetic.
