Default 3k Miles in 8 Months, Should I do Oil Change Soon?

Due to COVID-19 I am not driving much. Bought a used 16 LS in October 2019 with 31.5k miles and now it has 34.5k miles. Drove only 3k miles in last 8 months.

Should I do oil change soon?

Would it hurt the engine if I do oil change at 5k miles but after may be 12 months? In my second and previous cars I hit 5k miles every 4 to 5 months and never went over 6 months without an oil change.

I would appreciate your input.

If it were me, I would change the oil at 5k miles or 1 year. I put less than 5k miles a year, so I change it yearly. But I’m a diy-er so it’s up to you. No issue if you want to wait until it hits 5k miles and charge the oil.

I change the oil once a year no matter what. I've only put 3300 miles on the car since the last oil change in May '19, but as soon as my mechanic opens up again I'll take it in for an oil change.

if your doing low mileage....

5k change oil at 11 or 12 month once year

normal driving combo city / highway go 6500-7500 miles with a good synthetic and a good Toyota oil filter

if you using a not as good oil filter, then change between 5-6k

and penzoil platinum is the best to run in our cars. will go easy 10k I change mine 7500

good luck

Plenty of good oil you can run in our cars, no specific reason Pennzoil Platinum is "the best" outside of personal opinion.

It depends on what year your car is and where you live what Lexus recommends

There are other oils for the same money that are going to be just as good.

If you are using any of the real group 4 oils or premium group 3s like Moble1 EP Pennzoil platinum RP etc combined with a similar grade filter you will be fine for 7500 or one year no issues.

I don't personally recommend going over 7500 with any oil if you are interested in keeping wear as close to zero as possible

If you’re getting free oil changes at the Lexus dealership, then they are putting cheap 5w-20 oil. That’s what they did when I brought the car in for free 4 oil changes. I had to pay $50 extra to get synthetic 0w-20.

best thing to do is listen a Blackstone report of oil analysis not a mechanic..

the ls has 9 quarts or so of oil and some at 9-10 k have reported back the oil is fine with a long way to go with no degradation...

listen to Blackstone or changing every 7500 is safe
