Interesting. They have it for the 19" wheel size, at least they did when I was shopping for tires.

The Altimax RT43 is something I did consider, but the price difference between it and something like Conti/Michelin/Pirelli made me stop thinking about it. I'm glad that you are happy with the tire though - that's very useful feedback. How quiet is it? Tread life pretty good? Soft riding?

If you are really interested in this tire, or another brand that doesn't come in your exact size, try this website - https://tiresize.com/calculator/.

It will calculate other sizes that may be available in the brand/model tire. You want the wheel diameter to be as close to your original tire size. Also check the wheel diameter, that should also be close.

I did play around with the idea of running a 235/55/18 tire. It would be about 1” larger diameter overall than 235/50/18.
here are my reasons for wanting a taller sidewall:
1) I want quietness and ride comfort. I don’t care for cornering, handling or high speed driving at all.
2) The roads around here are really bad. Maybe a taller sidewall would give me added protection against potholes?
3) A new world of tire selection opens up at the 235/55/18 tire size.

Downsides would include increased unsprung rotating mass and a question mark about whether the tires will clear the fenders and suspension arms.

Just stick with the factory size. 1 inch larger diameter is significant, your speedometer and odometer will be considerably off.

how about these for the rear of my car to match the fronts? Maybe it’ll get me through the next season. I really don’t drive much.

Just get yourself a good set of tires.

You could go with 225/55/18, that would be .4" larger in diameter and the wheel width would be fine. That would be perfectly acceptable. I do agree 1" would not be good. For years I got snow tires for my wife's 2001 Jag S-Type that were one size narrower and one size higher sidewall for better performance in snow. A higher sidewall will offer more protection from potholes.

I'm happy with the mid-level Sumito tires I just put on my LS. Fairly quiet and really good stopping power. I've not driven in the rain yet but from what I've read they are good for rain too. There is no snow in Florida so that wasn't a consideration for me. If you have a tire kingdom near you they are buy 3 get 1 free. I have no regrets for my purchase.

all the more reason why you don’t want cheap tires
I have a set of the Vredestein Quatracs on two of my vehicles, the LS and a 1967 camaro, and they are great tires.

I’ll tell you this... everyone will say any tire is great the first day it’s put on. The real test is after a year or two and 15k-20k miles..

that is when you can tell the crappy tires from decent ones. Wet traction, noise, even wear, etc..

the way I see it is, a brand name tire will cost you 20% more, but you’ll use it 20% more. Kinda like synthetic oil.

when I buy cheap tires, I will trade them out after at 5/32 vs 4/32

Are they the AS1! I just replaced those after 18 months and 31k miles and they were toast. I would not purchase those tires again and would not recommend them to anyone that does lots of driving and racking up miles. They were ok for the first 20k miles then they started getting real noisy and unpredictable in the highway. By 30k they were unacceptable with about 4/32 left and down right dangerous at 31k. I swapped then out for the Pirelli P7 which everyone races about and although they are smooth up to triple digits they are a bit noisy IMO. Maybe it's they won't noise but even those crappy tire I just replaced were less noisy when new than the P7.

Really?!? All of my P7s have been almost silent. All the reviews always rate them lowest for noise too. Did you get the P7 Plus or Plus II? The P7 without the Plus is a different tire.

The tire thread, almost as passionate as the oil threads..

over 1.2 million miles on Michelins, I think the quality surpasses all including the Pirelli p7' v2

Might ride a bit firmer, but what you give up with the slight ride quality is made up with longevity, quality, rain traction, and peace of mind with Quality control
