2012 Lexus LS 460-Shut off while driving
Problem
First some back ground, brother's 2012 Lexus LS 460 with 40k miles, great service history, and spent most of it's life in Kentucky. About 24hr's ago on my way home, just got off the highway, driving, using probably 80% throttle getting off a stop light, motor suddenly shut's off and illuminates a check engine light. I coast to the side of the road and try to start it, nothing, cranks strong but does not fire. Tried that multiple times for the next few minutes, no start up at all, even called a friend to bring some gas to add, figured might be low and gas gauge is inaccurate, gas made no difference. Pushed the car into a parking lot(UPHILL) and had it towed.
Diagnosis and Solution(Kind of)
Following morning, I try to start the car, it now starts but as soon as I give it any throttle input, it immediately stalls and die's again. Next thing I did was check the trouble codes for the check engine light with my scanner (Autel MS906, 1k on amazon in 2018) and the following codes came up(picture attatched):
-P062D Fuel Injector 1 driver circuit performance
-P0087 Fuel rail/system pressure too low
-P062E Fuel injector 2 driver circuit performance
-P1603 Engine Stall History
-P1604 Startability Fault
-P1605 Rough Idling
Sorry about glare, listed codes & descriptions above
After paying 20 dollars for tech info Toyota and lexus for a day, figured out that the "Injector driver" trouble codes refer to the modules that sit under the engine cover on top of the intakes, which after some googling, found this forum thread that also helped, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...river-box.html. Did as mentioned in the linked forum, unplugged the modules, checked and cleaned connectors, plugged back in, but car still stalled and died after throttle input. However after clearing codes using the same scanner as pictured and mentioned above, car fired up and DID NOT STALL, drove it afterwards, for a mile, gave it back to my brother told him to monitor it more closely for any weird engine behavior, has put 10 miles on it since(not a lot I understand) and so far so good. My LS 460 had 74ish thousand when I got it, also a 12 with AWD, good maintenance, but an Illinois car for most of it's life(if it makes a difference), put 6k miles on it mixed city and highway, taking mine above a 100mph(in mexico of course) plenty of times in the duration of my ownership and thankfully have never experienced this with my car despite higher mileage.
But anyways, hope this helps someone in the future with their car, and please feel free to share your thoughts/ experiences.
