Good Deal on LS 460?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and am thinking of purchasing a used Lexus. I found an 2008 LS460 L LWB with 240,000 km on it for 15k CAD. It looks to be in mint condition and very well cared for, but still, it's 12 years old and has a ton of mileage, so I'm a bit wary.
Does this sound like a good deal? I can afford to pay more but the truth is I really prefer the look/style of this older model to the newer ones (I'm not so keen on the big grill at the front of the newer models).
Thanks for any advice!

The price seems high, but the market may be different north of the border. Take a look at the classified listings on this site - there's a Toronto member who has an '08 LWB with 75,000 miles offered at $13,000 U.S.

I agree with TriC, the price seems to be a bit high, although that is only about $11,500 USD. However, at double the miles of the Toronto car, it may be worth the extra money (assuming the cars are roughly equal in options and condition)..

Thanks for the replies. I checked out the Toronto LS 460 but the two seem a bit different, although it may just be the interior colour. Here is a link to the one I've been referring to:

It looks like a nicely spec'd car in good condition. Note that it's RWD, if that matters to you. The ad does say $14,900 OBO, so if you waved $13k at the owner, you might get it for that. I'm not familiar with pricing in Canada, although when I was looking at GS 350s a few years ago, I did notice that Lexus of Edmonton always had lower prices than my local dealer in NJ.

That seems high for that mileage and year. I searched long and hard for my 2015 from Ontario West and in my experience the Canadian market is based on kilometres not year. It appears that the lower the k the higher the price, particularly when you get into the 2013-2016 range the prices may be similar based on lowest mileage, and there are lots of these cars owned by people that hardly drove them to be had in Canada, over 200k seems high especially if you're patient and wait. However that said there are so few of these in Canada our market is nothing at all comparable to the US market. The specs are completely different (in my opinion in a better way in the used market, less options more standard than our Southern neighbours). There are lower mileage ones out there in a similar price range on Autotrader right now and depending how much you want to go up in price there were some really low mileage pre facelift ones including the L in Sherwood Park, AB with like 130k. Depending where you are in ON you might want AWD. The air suspension is nice for the ability to raise the height a bit if there is snow on the road.

Great info, thanks. I agree it is all about kms here in Canada. I'd love to get one with not much more than 100,000 kms and I would definitely go higher in price for that, only problem is I live in Ottawa where they are few and far between. I could maybe expand my search to include the GTA, but I can't go to AB to look at a car. AWD would definitely be an asset, even if it reduces fuel efficiency.

If you're actually using it long distance you'll find the mileage is pretty good I can average around 8.5-9.0 l/100km in summer on long distance trips (500+ km). That being said my commuting mileage (mostly highway, some city) gets around 13 l/100km. Good luck with the search!

I'm fine with RWD and a decent set of winter tires. I drove my Honda S2000 in many a snowstorm with no issues at all. AWD with winter tires would be a step up, I'm sure, but not a necessity. It's just something to consider.

Thanks for the advice. I've decided I'm going to focus on finding an AWD, and something with lower mileage. But assuming a Lexus has been properly cared for, at what mileage would you consider it to be a risky purchase (i.e. headed for expensive repairs)?
