Must watch video, understanding and demystifying air suspension
Anybody who has air suspension and is worried about air suspension, you must watch this video. It’s about an S Class, but the system is essentially the same. Watch it all the way through, at the end he discusses converting to coils and why that doesn’t make sense.
This also highlights why you need a good mechanic.

It is very basic for people with no car experience. But I hope, other people will find it useful. The funny part is 1 LS460 front air strut is around $1-1.5k, you can get two air struts for S550 for the same money.

I must say that the video doesn’t decrease the price tag of replacing AWD front air struts at all.

Most people here if they have not looked at OUR struts up close would assume these are similar to the Mercedes ones. They are not. We need to understand that the Lexus strut is vastly inferior. The Mercedes system in general has a hydraulic bottom portion and the air portion resting above, so it is essentially modular. The system is also nicely protected with a boot.
even the lx system with active dampening looks like it is going to work better the reason is the dampening control is sealed and on the side, it’s not moving a metal piece that’s essentiallly open to the elements at the top, once the rubber seals fails you are done.

The point is not everything is a blown strut. There are lots of other ways the system can be losing air that don’t require a replacement of a strut to repair.
