I drained about 3.5 qts. the last time when I used a clear jug but this time I used an oil pan and I didn't measure how much came out. Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if I need to do a fluid level check.

Did you do a fluid level check?

no, didn’t drop the pan. Only removed the drain bolt and almost exactly 2 quarts came out.

yeah, I waited for the temp to hit 95 degrees and then removed the overflow bolt (says “check” on it and is opened with a 5mm Allen wrench). Nothing came out though. But I drained 2 quarts and refilled with 2.25 to be safe.

Maybe yours was low before you started. I ordered a filter and 4 qts of fluid so I can drain and fill again.

I think you should add another qt. And then remove the overflow plug. Do some more reading on this site. I think yours is low. You should have some fluid coming out if the level is correct.

I was thinking that but why would it be low to begin with? That means it’s been low since factory ?

Wait a minute, are you saying that your 2008 has never had this done before? Are you the original owner?

second owner. First owner had all maintenance done at the dealership. And there’s no record of transmission fluid ever been done, so I’m the first to do it on this car.

I believe, the drain bolt is recessed. That means if you just remove the bolt there is still some fluid left in the pan. It might explain my you have only 2 quarts to come out.

And then had the car pan heat up to 95 degrees. Opened up the overfill bolt but nothing came out !! So weird. I think it might be due to 95 degrees not being hot enough and may have to wait to 115 degrees next time.

also, in case anyone is wondering, the fill bolt is indeed 24mm and I used a box end wrench to open it. The overflow bolt is 5mm and the drain bolt is 14mm. Be sure to open up the fill bolt before draining to make sure you’re able to even open the fill bolt! Lol. Side note: super hard to put the fill bolt back in lol
I would get 4 more qts. of fluid and do another drain and fill because you said it looks very dark. Adding 2 qts or 2.25 qts is not really enough to make a difference since the system holds 14 qts. I gotta go back and read up on this again so don't quote me on the capacity.

I’ll probably do it again on the next oil change lol. I don’t wanna shock the tranny too much.

I have my 07 LS460 at an independent shop right now having a drain and refill done. My car has about 156,000 miles and this is the 2nd drain and refill I have had done (first was at 128,000 miles). Based on how dark the fluid looks in the drain picture I am planning drain #3 in the very near future. Any thoughts on how long I should wait before next one?

dang that’s definitely darker than what mine was. I think some folks said a couple thousand miles? I’ve heard some folks say they do it at the next oil change. I plan to do mine at the next oil change

Question: How much fluid did they remove and replace?
