Drain plug = 28-30 ft-lb
Oil filter housing = 20 ft-lb
Oil filter bolt/plug = 9.5 +/-2 ft-lb

No, I just have the Lexus, the Monte Carlo and a Trailblazer. That 283 engine in the truck above isn't mine. I found that to show how a 1960 engine looked back in the day compared to our engines today.

When installing the new valve cover gasket should the gasket be lightly coated with fresh oil similar to what is done with the o-ring on the oil filter housing or should it just be dropped in and installed dry? I think dry is correct, but looking for confirmation. Thanks.

I have never used oil for valve cover gaskets, it never caused any problems. If anything, some oil might make it harder to install the gasket because it is not going to stay in the cover during installation. What you need to make sure is properly remove the old one.

I agree with this too. Make sure both surfaces are clean and smooth.

I gotta change the high pressure fuel pump... should I change the spark plug gaskets too? Or should I change the spark plug gaskets when I change the valve cover gasket? I am not sure if the valve cover is leaking because there’s so much dirt and old oil grime all over the side of the valve cover from the pressure fuel pump leak.

prob better that I just fix the fuel pump leak first. And then monitor to see if the valve cover gaskets leaking after that right? No point in messin with it, if it’s still good, right?

I would recommend changing the valve cover gaskets along with fuel pump seals. Otherwise, you are going to repeat certain steps. For instance, in order to replace a valve cover gasket, you have to remove the fuel pump.

I agree 100% with Anfanger. Do the valve gaskets at the same time and also change plug seals and spark plugs (if you are due) too or you will be repeating a lot of the same steps multiple times down the road.
