Default Exhaust

My VSC light has come on again (alas &#128528. My guy at the garage connected it to the computer and it came up catalytic converter 3 times. They checked and seen a leak coming from a bracket next to the catalytic converter. Garage said they would require my car for 3 days for process of elimination ... first they will change both gaskets (best to change the pair, which I'm happy to do). If that doesn't rectify the VSC they will replace both sensors. If this does not work, they said I will require to get new catalytic converter.

I'm not sure if my garage is getting Lexus Dealership syndrome. Maybe it's just me, but since they could actually identify the leak which was clear for all to see when my car went up on the ramp. I would be happy for them to change the leaking gasket, along with the other, which I would imagine would not take much longer than 2 hours. Please anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if I am wrong.

A leak at the Y pipe is pretty common as any car ages. Most ppl don't noticed until it gets loud enough. This sometimes throws the code P0430/420 which means something is wrong with the cats even if they are working. I used to get that code sometimes on my 400. It should only take a shop with the right tools an hour or less to change the gaskets but I'm not going to dictate how your shop charges. Hopefully that's your issue and they don't have to go any further.

Considering that the gaskets are crushable and both sides have to be undone. You have replace both otherwise the other side will no seal upon assembly.

What bracket are you talking about? Mine has 4 of them, and if the leak is next to the one of the brackets, the shop will have to use a welder to fix the leak. Replacing gaskets only works when you have a leaky coupling.

Sounds promising. I believe, flange bolts and nuts are not reusable and will have to be replaced. At least, that is what I have done. Do you know if the shop is actually going to replace them?

Is there any tell tale signs that the cat needs replaced. Or is it process of elimination.
