Sunroof Glass Replacement
My sunroof gasket is in bad shape. I went to the dealer and was informed that the glass needs to be replaced. The seal comes with the glass and isn't offered as a replacement part. Does anyone have any experience with the glass replacement? I want to know if it is fairly easy to swap the glass out and save myself some money. Is there a write up of this? If there is i'm sorry i'm new here.

I am looking to do this on my 2014 LS. Can you believe the rubber is rotted away so soon? Shame on Lexus. This appears to be a fairly common problem, and I've owned several 98-00 and a '91 that had zero wear on the sunroof after 300k miles and 20+ years. Lexus wants 1 hour labor to replace so I would say you can do it yourself. There are a couple of YouTube videos, one for an LS430 and one for a 90-94 model. I assume it would be similar for yours. You basically open the sunroof partially and remove 4 mounting bolts, and the assembly comes out. The part should be 63201-50170 if you need it. Parts and Labor were $899.52 from my Dealer. There is an Ebay seller that offers a new OEM unit for about $350 shipped, I have no affiliation so buy at your risk. Hope that helps!

This is one of the easiest things to change. Just make sure you line the glass up with the roof before you tighten the bolts or you will have wind noise from above. I would try to locate a good glass from the junkyard before paying that much money.

I found new oem glass on here for $444. I think im going to go this route. I dont want to go used and risk this same problem happening in a couple years. ill spend the little extra to have something that will last.

Suggest trying an auto trim shop that deals with sunroof glass all the time.

Before you go to the trouble of replacing the glass I would take some Flex Seal in spray or paste and work it into the cracks in the seal. Mask everything except the seal and work it in, removing the excess. I did this with my old LS 430 which had the same problem. I was happy enough with the results that I didn't feel it was necessary to replace the glass. You might also consider using black silicone. Maybe someone out there has other ideas as to what material to use. I would take a photo for you but I no longer have the car.
