Anyone had 2 car seats and adult in back seat?
Hi All,
Per title, curious if anyone has ever ridden in back seat with two car seats installed? We're in a situation where we're going to need one forward facing and one rear-facing infant seat. Normally in this scenario my wife would just sit in the passenger seat but my 3 year old son has developed a habit of getting car sick and my wife is nervous about leaving him back there unattended. There might also be times where my nanny needs to join us in the car and in those scenarios she would be in back seat with kids. If you've done it which seat did the adult sit in and how cramped was it? Is LS any worse than a crossover (RX350 for example)? For context:

- My wife is a small adult
- She understands its not going to be super comfortable, just as long as its not miserable
- Hopefully my son will outgrow this so she wont have to sit back there permanently
- We live in city so use this car infrequently, maybe 2-4 times a month

If no one else chimes in, I can throw our car seats in the LS and give you a definitive answer. My gut says this should be much better than an RX and your wife should have no problems fitting back there.
We have a 2013 RX450H with a front facing (almost 3 year old) and a rear facing (4 months) and there is space for a small adult behind the drivers seat. Comparatively, the LS has more room even though I haven't set everything up yet.

Thanks for the response it's very helpful, we will be in a similar boat age wise. Sounds like in your RX you put one of the car seats in the middle? Any reason why you prefer that configuration vs. having one behind each seat?

You are correct. We like the front facing in the middle so that our oldest can see what's going on. She didn't love staring in to the back of a car seat.

The two reviews I could find re LS and car seats are somewhat conflictory. This one makes it seem like the LS is terrible with no ability for 3-across:

While this one makes it sound great and has a picture of 3-across configuration.

Very much appreciate the offer awol and sorry I missed your post yesterday. Our situation is evolving by the day and as much as I want an LS we may need something a little more rugged. Will let you know though!

I have two car seats in the back of mine and it is an L. It is very tight in the middle and there is a large hump on the floor. Ok to have someone there for a short drive but a road trip would be really uncomfortable. Like others on this thread, my other car is a minivan.

I second this observation. The transmission tunnel and hump in the seat make for an uncomfortable ride for anything other than a short trip. There is probably sufficient width but the bucket shape of the outside seats pushes the car seats towards the middle of the car.

Where we live cars are extremely expensive to own and get very little use. We'll only ever have one vehicle, and while I'm not a minivan hater, as a car enthusiast I'll be damned if that one is a minivan lol. If we move to the burbs and expand to a 2-vehicle fleet it will be a different story.
