Default No Heat at idle in Cabin

*************Update below***************

I have a 07 LS that started blowing cold air at idle. I’ve read that this could be the water pump but I’m not sure if I’m sold on that. Here is what I know.
  • Water pump replaced at Lexus Dealer at 80,000 miles.
  • Currently have less than 130,000
  • Coolant was low; I refilled it
  • refill only took less than a quarter of the bottle. But I have heat at idle again! (Is it really that sensitive?)
  • After a 2 hour ride cold at idle again
  • notice steam coming from the passenger corner of the front of the car. (Barely smells like coolant)

Would you diagnose this bad water pump or radiator?

This is where the steam was coming from.

I am kinda leaning towards radiator. If that is the case I only like to use factory parts. Do you think the radiator in this photo is the stock radiator?

It’s an aftermarket part made in a different facility from the actual OEM radiator. Pretty much none of the Denso branded parts are factory OEM parts.

Have you checked the valley plate for leaks?

Where did you get such information? I know Aisin sells same parts as OEM.

From what I am seeing the valley plate is somewhere on the engine. The steam isn’t coming from anywhere around the engine it’s coming from the front close to the bumper. Could that still be the valley plate?

Valley plate leaks explain coolant loss. But if you see steam coming other than from the overflow tank or radiator filling opening. I will say that either the radiator has a leak or the radiator hoses.

Pull ALL the covers off of the engine and shine a light in the area where the steam is coming from. The leak should be obvious. You will see dried up coolant.

Absolutely will be doing this. Just didn’t want to dig too deep on Valentine’s Day. (Pardon the pun). I’m hoping it’s a hose and not the radiator. But we shall see!

In the case of the radiator I’m open to suggestions when it comes to brand. I really don’t want to cut anything to make it fit. I need a one for one swap. If anyone has replaced there’s with one that fit perfectly please let me know!

I have had this happen to me twice, once while I was sitting in line for exiting a parking parking garage. My car has never lost coolant, or smoked like in this description. As soon as I went out of the parking garage the heat came back instantly. The other time was similar, in line for air for the tires.
