At this point I am like if it is the starter and Lexus charges me $2000 that is still worth it to not have to crawl around on the ground and not have my car for an extended period of time. My dealerships service department was open today so I called them and they said if I could get it started and drive it over there I could just leave it parked there until they were able to fit it into thier schedule (and I did get it started and over there because the engine was warm) and a couple of hours later they called me to tell me that it was the starter and it had just worn out after 93000 miles. I am still waiting for a final quote but labor was around $700 and they aid that they had a 10 or 15 percent discount for cars older than 10 years.

I would usually replace starters and stuff like that but I don't have time right now and all of my indoor space is taken up by my other car projects. I also really didn't want to exhaust manifold.
That sucks. I just find it hard to believe that a starter that was performing just fine before a battery swap is all of a sudden bad. My car did it after a battery swap and had been fine ever since. I’m still on the same old starter.

After you parked it at the dealer did you try to see if it would fire up again?

Damn, I just read this thread. What I would have told you to do is take a piece of sandpaper and scour the inside of your battery cables (you could also rough up the new battery terminals in case there's any grease on them). I could almost guarantee you from the symptoms you described, it is a poor connection.

I know the battery has a good connection because I put it in and there was nothing that could make it a weak connection also yes at the dealer I turned it off and then turned it back on again and it worked but I had also just driven 30 min and the engine was warmand when I turned it off again then it didn't start the rest of the times I tried it. If I lived in a warmer climate I probably wouldn't be replacing it or have a problem yet because in Kansas we get some really cold days and that takes a toll on the cars especially if they are always parked outside and covered in snow and ice. I would drive this car almost everyday (before covid) and I can't rely on a car that when it is really cold might not start.

Default Bad starter with a grounded winding can kill old battery.

Yep happend to me. Thought I had battery problems but this was an issue caused by a parasitic battery drain. 5 degrees and a low charge kills a battery. So after replacing the battery you guessed it I had a couple of issues trying to start and then nothing. Replaced the starter been running fine ever since.

They usually want to keep the old starter - "core charge" - or they charge you an extra $300+.

Haha, I see where you’re going with this. That’s ice cold.

You're correct if you buy a refurb but, not if you buy a new one.
