I was wondering if anybody have tried to retrofit rear window shades on a car that did not come equipped with them. I can get used gear on Ebay at good price but question of wiring, door panels is not clear. Has anybody attempted anything like that?
Did SWB come with rear door sunshades or the option was only available in LWB?
I think only on the LWB. My SWB is fully optioned out and doesn't have them. The LWB is basically a high-end executive transport car thus the full privacy treatment. The rear doors are not the same size on the LWB vs SWB.

What a shame. Thanks for the reply, I was interested in the answer myself.

Not exactly. My 2008 LS460 SWB RWD has Comfort Plus package (a $3620 factory option), which includes power rear window shade. Other features in the Comfort Plus Package are wood & leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, headlamp washers, climate-controlled front/rear seats, and pwr rear seats w/memory. I would think that it will be difficult to retro-ft the power rear shade because it is controlled on both front and rear seat consoles. The wiring of the power control cables could be a big challenge.

I was asking about rear door shades. I got the rear window shade too. Are you talking about door shades or rear window shade?

It seems we have the same comfort plus package, which just has power rear window shade for the back window (one single power shade). It doesn't have side door window shades.

My 2013 SWB had the power rear door shades. They are part of the Ultra Luxury package and controlled from the console buttons between the seat HVAC controls.
I believe, I found part numbers for LH and RH shades (black) that fit SWB. The part numbers are 65908-50022-C0, 65907-50022-C0. Lexus website claims it fits both LS460 and LS460L which I doubt. Used SWB version shades seems to be rare, however, used shades for LWB are readily available.

I would think on the doors you would need to replace the panels too. There is a gap there for them.
At those prices, I would think it would cheaper to sell your car and buy one with it using the extra $5k+ for those parts...
My 2007 LS460L had them all on the back, my 2014 just has the rear one...
That is true. I never was going to get new units. As I stated, I am looking for used hardware including panels, as you stated. But, if necessary wiring is not already present, I will not even consider such project.
The next thing is to figure out a way to control it's operation. Also the door multiplex ECU is different. The shade Auto lowers when the windows is lowered . I attached the mechanical parts image.
This seems like quite the undertaking! Good luck, maybe it might be cheaper to find the rear doors off of a wrecked LS with the right options and start there? If you are looking for privacy at the push of a button, maybe you can try electrocromic tint, or smart tint. Only issue is, I think it is not see through from any side with it on.
