My neighbor has an LS460 (08) and his actuator has been barking for about 3 years. I know this is not a big deal, won't affect braking. But, it is annoying.
My recommendation was a brake fluid flush, but his fluid looked good, a little yellow, but not bad. I used a small hose and drained all the fluid from the reservoir, and refilled with a dot 4 brake fluid. When I was filling it back up, some black crap came up and floated to the top. We cleaned it from the fluid with a clean paper towel touched into the fluid, He drove for around 1,200 miles and we did it again. Again, more black stuff, so we cleaned it again.
After around 50 miles, the barking WENT AWAY. It has not done it since.
We are going to do one more and done.
Hope this helps at least one person from replacing a very expensive actuator.
Some say barking or chirping. The flush and fill from the reservoir does work. The noise stopped on mine.
I did a drain and fill with fresh brake fluid at every oil change. Also, change the cap it is short money. Get oem only
mine started making an electrical noise , audible at lower speeds, just let it go for one or two days before I had the brakes flushed professionally and so far i havent heard the noise
When I had the fluid flushed, the fluid was clear. But it had some junk at the bottom of the fluid tank. After the flush, I get a little whine coming from the actuator, only when I fully stop.
We did another drain and fill: more black crap, (not as much as the first time), but the noise has not come back. My LS had a flush done at 170k miles and I had done a drain and fill and a front brake flush and I have never had the chirp/bark problem.
Mine has been barking for at least three years in my 2007 LS-460, very annoying ! It seems not to bark as much in the summer, coincidence?
Question for anybody, draining the reservoir will not change the fluid in the actuator? I "supposedly" have had my brakes flushed and re-bled by the dealer at 100K, but this started at about 125K. Maybe when I had the front brakes replaced. Could compressing the front calipers to accept new pads force dirty fluid into and through the actuator?
I am going to look at the reservoir in the morning light, but anybody with anything to add would be appreciated!!!
I traded my 07 LS460 in because of the brake actuator noise: just figured it was only going to get worse and end up costing me $3,000 to fix. I did do regular brake fluid flushes by the bleeder screws twice while I owned it, but I never just turkey basted or sucked brake fluid up through the bottom of the reservoir - not sure if that would have helped (as my fluid looked clean) - but I would have tried if I had know others had success.
I’ll tell yeah, I miss that car and still wish I had it. I still see them driving around from time to time and I just think they still look modern enough to carry themselves very well. But at 179,000 miles, mine was starting to consume a lot of oil (1 quart every 1,200 miles), the exterior was staring to get pretty rough...needed tires, brakes, a passenger side mirror. Yet, I still wish I had kept it, did all those repairs and just dealt with the oil consumption till it blew up.

Nah, you did the right thing letting it go. Your car value was nearing the cost of the brake Actuator repair If it went then you'd have to decide to junk it or repair and keep it. You got some value when you traded it.
Me on the other hand. My 2008 was mint with 100K miles. Everything worked, suspension work done including KYB shock upgrade.19 inch wheels. Nearly 2 yrs later the new owner hasn't gone to the dealer for the brake actuator repair . I want the L trim next time
