Is the 4th gen more reliable than the 5th gen?

Get 2013+ with as low as miles possible and a good service record.

Depending on your budget, get all you can. Starting in 2013 the interior was upgraded and the tech was improved. There is always a possibility for issues, but the control arms and brake actuator issues have been addressed. Not to say they can't go wrong, but much improved upon. If you do get a 13-17, take it to your local Lexus dealer and look into an extended warranty. I did with my 14 and always had peace of mind. Never needed it, but happy to have had it. Good luck.

There are very minor differences with the last 2 years being the best and, of course, the most expensive!

I'd ask this in the 5th gen board. It's highly unlikely anyone here has owned both an LS460 and an LS500.
