Default 2015 LS460-L battery. Should I replace?

I took my 2015 460:L to the dealership to do the oil, filter, and tire rotation. $105. More than fair for a 10,000 mile oil change in my opinion.

The dealer indicated that the car needed a 60,000 mile service. I usually do these services, but limit the dealer to things that I can't or won't do. So I'll let them do the spark plugs, and the brake fluid change.

They are recommending a new battery, due to the age of the original one in the car.

I've never abused it, and never run it down for any reason. It's been babied, with most of the mileage accumulated on the highway.

I'm temped to let it go for another year, but 5 1/2 years is approaching the end of life for a battery.

Opinions? The dealership wants $185 for a new one installed.

Is it OK to put in a Duracell from Sams? Or should I stick with Lexus's offering as the one that came with the car has lasted for 5 1/2 years?

If you still have the original Panasonic battery I don’t see why you should replace it. If I recall correctly I believe some members here got 8+ years on it.

When I bought my car in Feb 2016, I had a PPI done at Lexus of Edison. They replaced my battery under warranty with an Interstate Cold Spec (part # 00544-MF270-750, MSRP $146). Over 5 years and 37000 miles later, the battery is still going strong, but it's probably time to change it.

I would get the battery replaced by the dealer. You are spending several hundred dollars for the 60K service; I would get this done at the same time. $185 seems a bit high but maybe they will give you a 10% service discount!

I live in FL where bats don’t last as long due to the heat. In any event, I put a new one in around every 3 years. It’s not worth getting stuck somewhere. Interstates are around $100 at Costco.

My first battery lasted 3 years (almost to the day). If you're in MA, I'd change it.

If you have an AutoZone near by, let them test it for you. They offer some great batteries for your car and will install it at not additional charge. I generally went with their middle of the line battery and never once regretted that decision.

I took delivery of my car in July, 2007. I didn't replace that battery until May, 2017. Unbelievable! The battery didn't even die, it just sounded weak when starting, so I had it tested and it was indeed weak.

I replaced it with an Interstate which is still going strong.

Out of curiosity, how many miles did you log over that period. I've heard such stories, bit I've never had such a battery. When Firestone offered lifetime batteries, they'd replace mine free every few years after testing. Finally, Firestone gave up and bought up such warranties. I think they paid me $150 or so which is probably over 30 years ago. No company offers "lifetimes" any more to my knowledge. In fact, even some the auto parts stores, Advance for one, are getting away from prorates offering just free replacement for 3 years or so.

I live in Texas and my battery needs replacing about every three years on my LS. The batteries on my other vehicles last a lot longer.

The battery was changed on May 11, 2017 at 111,300 miles. I am at 151,000 right now with the current Interstate.

Amazing for an LS. I purchased a new Honda accord in 1998 and that battery lasted ten years. I've never had another battery that came close to lasting that long.

I should add to my previous posts, that I've had many cars over the last 60 years, (yikes), and the make or model never seemed to matter re battery life. I will say all were V-8's except a Chevy Vega (yikes) that we had.

It's funny when I was entering the 6th winter with the battery I was going to replace it. I don't remember what happened but I was busy and just didn't get to it. Then the 7th winter was coming and again I intended to replace it and somehow I just didn't get to it.

When the 8th autumn came around I was thinking I'm going to push this. I only drove the car locally so the worst could happen and I wouldn't be stranded far from home. The 9th and 10th winters came and I purposely didn't replace it. I'm a Seinfeld fan and if any of you are you know the episode where Kramer and a Saab salesman pushed the test drive with the gas gauge below the E mark to see how far it would go. That was my feeling with the battery, I was going to push it to see how far it would go. I would have gone into the 11th winter if it hadn't started to fail.
