Does K&N Air Filters Work well in 2012 LS 460?

Show you the data?
My link above has data, as does this one (it opens or downloads a PDF):

The K&N gets miniscule advances in MPG, but shows that the filtration is much worse. In the link I posted above your reply, it compares the K&N to OEM brands and others.

Interesting.... and thanks.... Anfanger. I don't drive in very harsh conditions, luckily..... however.... next service I'm going back to Denso paper air filtration, in fact, I found two new Denso filters sitting on my shelf, so I'm back to paper, notwithstanding prior investments in K&N filters. I'm getting 25.5/27.5 highway mpg... depending on winter/summer premium fuel mix, on my '08 LS460L - RWD. I like the K&N sustainability and filter reusability story, but not at the price effectiveness... which is why we run air filters in the first place; we're not racing... where we used no air filters-just rock screens. See what K&N sent me [see link below]. I commented on the rather large particulate mix used in their test; the mix of sub-micron particles would be scant.... from just a mathematical percentage perspectively on the testing performed. Pending a response comment. http://kandn.com/dynocharts/33-2381.pdf I really don't know how any air filter would work on sub-micron particulate, or what the performance penalty would be if available? Stay tuned if K&N follows up.
For racing purposes, K&N might be a good performance proposition option?

All on this thread.... I received my final response from the K&N tech center on "cotton gauze type" air filters vs. paper by brand. Clearly to me, as least, there is a large trade-off between air restriction and filtration effectiveness. Paper is more effective....gauze type less restriction. The decision is the users.... but I was surprised at the difference.... on both sides. TAKE A LOOK AT THE LINK ABOVE. In dusty environments, I would suggest that paper is the better choice, otherwise one might want the performance [improved air flow] that oiled cotton gauze provides....? But one has to ask, "Why do air filters exist?".... and you get back to a Marcus Aurelius type answer... what is nature of things... its purpose... and reason to exist.... in this case, air filters 'exist' to clean the air intake of harmful particulate to IC engines.
I'm glad the topic was brought up.... and I learned something. That is about the best thing one can say about forums like this one.

I like the thought of an air filter that is reusable with maintaining them, but there’s just too much data out there on the effectiveness of the k&n vs a traditional filter. And in all honesty a “dirty” paper filter filters better than a new paper filter...so perhaps we are changing those filters too often to begin with?
