Air Filters

Pretty much all air filters, regardless of construction material, will allow fine enough dust particles to pass. That's why oil change intervals are probably the most important single factor in motor life longevity. And also why it's often recommended to change oil and filter if the vehicle is regularly used in dusty/dirty environments.
Having been on racing/motorcycle/truck forums since 2000, threads on oil, oil filters, air filters, etc. will be started every so often, and bottom line is, nothing substantially new, ground breaking, or even helpful ever is gained from them. Many have their own opinions on why they prefer a certain brand of oil, with some just mentioning it as info for others, while some are so opinionated as to sort of come across as trying to push their own agenda onto others.
The Spicer report is well known as a knock on oiled, reusable filters and often is brought into discussions like these. I have no dog in this fight (I've used all sorts of air filters, even running velocity stacks with only filter screens), but I would imagine if air filters such as the K&Ns were truly harmful to motors, certainly by now there would be a class action lawsuit out there, no?
Anyway, I digress from my main point of threads regarding the topics mentioned previously, and that I prefer not to engage in them as they often result in members going at each other with the end result being more negative then positive. I have long enjoyed forums like this to help each other out, whether one wishes to only maintain their vehicle in a strictly stock manner or one wants to modify the motor or mechanical components and on to exterior body, kits, and panels. We have a lot of good experience and creative minds here, so let's use them to our advantage.

I agree oil changes are the most important thing regarding car maintenance. As far as OEM air filters go, I believe they do their job that they're designed.for. I've owned cars where I've put over 250k miles on them using these filters w/o ever having related engine problems.
