Default Drive Belt

Any idea on how long these belts last. All Lexus recommends is to inspect it.

I thought the 460's have a chain and not a belt?

We’re talking about the belt that drives the water pump and other accessories located on the front of the engine.

I change belts usually every 30k miles or earlier if the car is driven often.

drive belts can last a long time, it is good practice to keep maintained, I use 303 rubber protectant. It's not an expensive maintenance item, if you do it yourself it's like $30 and 10 minutes. I would say probably in the 60k mile range in general.

I have literally seen drive belts last past 100,000 miles. When I changed mine on my LS460 I believe it was around 100,000 miles - I was waiting for the water pump to fail first, which it never did, so I ended up buying a belt with a lifetime warranty for a little bit more (which I never got use because I traded the car in at 178,000 miles). And that original water pump was still going strong.

But, a belt can fail very quickly if there is anything wrong with any of the pulleys, idler pulleys, tensioner.

Yes I agree. The more I read about serpentine belt longevity, it's apparent these belts are made to last for many, many miles. I've yet to see age mentioned as in miles or time, which ever comes first. Lexus just says to check the belt during scheduled maintenance. The older V-belts had several on a car and lasted maybe 30k miles or so.

I recently had my 96K-kms service (actually @99K kms) and under 'recommended/deferred services', tech's note shows "replace serpentine belt ... squeaking". I think it's faint squeaking as I can't really hear it pronounced.

Anyways ... the vehicle will be @ ~107K-kms so will have it included on the next service interval, costs C$219.95 +ss +tax

I replaced the serpentine belt on my 2012 at 85,000 miles, and was shocked to see that the original belt was in near-perfect condition. The idler pulleys were noiseless and smooth when spun. Yet another example of the extreme quality - both of design and manufacturing - you get with this car.

I replaced the belt at 100,000 miles, and it was near perfect. Replaced with a Toyota belt, so should be good for the next 100,000 miles.
