Default Fuelpump dead LS460? Update first diagnose engine died..

Hi all,

Just a question did anybody had their fuelpump replaced? I have a 07 SWB LS460…

Reason for asking:

Drove today on the highway with high speeds. When i had to brake for another car which was overtaking at around 80mph i waited to floor it again. So when he went back to his lane I floored it and…

- cruise control error
- PCS light on
- VCS light on
- whole christmas tree in the dashboard of liggts
- engine starts shaking badly
- no power…nothing nada noppes

After stopping in the emergency lane, i did first all the emergencystuff required in Germany so i’m save and visible.

After an hour i tried to restart the car, with no result engine really sounds bad and is shaking. I also noticed my exhaust tips looked black, which is a sign if bad fuel burning…

Futhermore:
- no loss of oil
- no loss of coolant
- engine temperature was fine.

I tried the search button without any result regarding fuelpump and LS460 but no hits.

Does anybody reconize these symptons and or has changed the fuelpump? If so what are the costs???

Car is at the dealership at the moment, but I have to wait untill tuesday before they have time to check..

Not sure if serious or not.

I have no itention to show off that i drive a bit faster then average. It is intended to provide extra information, so a technichan knows everything gets very hot.

With my M5 I had once similair things and some sensor said it got too hot under the bonnet, resulting in switching of 1 cylinder. Believe me then you also make sure you stop driving when it runs on 7 cylinders

I dont know if Lexus has something similair…

I hate to sound as a broken record but without error codes it is a waste of time.

I get it that in Germany some people drive their cars fast and they are allowed to do so. But driving '07 Lexus LS460 like a sport vehicle is just abuse. From the description, it seems as the acceleration caused the issues and not the speed. You might have to change the way you accelerate if you want to avoid issues in the future.

Regarding acceleration 100% correct there is where it went wrong.

Regarding acceleration normally I enter the A31 and dont floor it but let it gently accelerate to those higher speeds. This time i floored it with sport and power mode on and I think indeed that is why something gave up in combination of its age (14 years old)….

Please note there is no official statement yet, it is just me guessing what could be wrong….

So again:

- did anybody changed their fuelpump, because it died ( I think it is not a weak point of the LS)
- Does anybody know if the LS has a system which switchs off a cylinder if the heat under the hood gets too high… when it happend i was already driving 100km on those speeds, although i had around 6 km of roadworks ( with speedlimit of 80km/h) just before this happend. After the roadworks accelerate to above mentioned speeds, brake for the camper so it could overtake and then the strong acceleration causing my problem.

As far as I can tell, the 1UR is a rather well engineered piece of metal. I don't believe Toyota would create a flagship cruiser that didn't cover sustained high speed. Just my opinion.

Well small update with big impact:

First impression from the dealership I got towed to: no compression at cylinder 7, engine is dead….

Called my own Lexus dealership and they never heard this from an LS460. We agreed that they will pick up the car at the other dealership and start an investigation…

Will take however up to 30 days, but no problem I also go on a long holiday starting upcoming weekend. If i have any update i will offcourse let it known…

I feel gutted at the moment car only has 124k kilometers on the speedometer and engine recall was performed in the past…

If you have a cheap scan tool, you should be able to get a code(s) from it. It will, no doubt, have a specific code for low/no compression at cylinder x.
