2007 LS 460 Transmission
SOS, my mechanic says I need a new transmission. It sometimes shifts OK, but other times it slips hard. It still goes in reverse and drives. Is there anything I can do other than replace the whole transmission? Please help! I forgot to mention, no check engine lights....

How many miles does your car have? Was the fluid ever replaced? Have you checked the fluid level and fluid state? Did you get any transmission related error codes?

So i know people who reached 300k miles have this issue some gears have slip issue and hard vibration when put in reverse when in operating temperature usually the best solution is to replace the transmission and keep good fluid change intervals . Worn out clutch is the culprit.

A backflush has helped free up any stuck solenoids in the trans according to my dealer and others. Not drain and fill.
Used transmissions or not expensive as the part is not in high demand it serms. $1,000? Plus install of course

I have 209,250 miles...I bought the car (two owners), but the person I bought it from has no record of the transmission being serviced. I went to the Lexus owner's site and the site did not show a record of any maintenance on it either...

Well, that is some miles...and these units are durable, but at 200,000 plus miles I guess it could be on its way out (if it hasn’t been regularly serviced).
But because you’re probably finding yourself in the “I have nothing to lose, category”, I’d budget $100 bucks to try to fix it, maybe $200. Find a place that will drop the pan and take a look at the magnet and filter...if there’s metal in there or a heavy amount of clutch material on the magnet/filter? It’s probably done, but you can clean everything, replace the filter, fluid and give it one shot to see if it helped. It probably won’t but it’s worth a try IMO.
Good news is that you usually can find these transmissions for around $1,000 bucks,.,bad news is...you’ll probably pay that much in labor to install it, or more like $1,500.

Some Lexus dealers are notorious for pushing replacement instead of repair for any car issue. Not just transmissions. Ask around here and check Yelp for dealer references. There are also Japanese car independent shops to get a second opinion from.
