Default Extended Warranty Advice

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice here. I have never owned a lexus before, so this is my first lexus. About a week ago, I bought a used 2008 lexus ls460 with about 155000 miles on it. The vehicle is in really great condition and was well maintained. The only imperfections is the passenger headlight housing that has some condensation inside of it after I got the car washed, and the low beam bulb is out. I ordered the bulb, and plan to replace it myself.
I am currently thinking about getting some extended warranty for it, but the coverage I am seeing includes the following; engine, transmission, turbo/supercharger, drive axle assembly, Electrical, modified vehicle coverage (lift kit/tires), VIP Anniversary Pak. This would all cost about $1000 for 36000 miles over 3 years. Do you guys think that this is a reasonable price or not? Or should I not worry about extended warranty given how reliable this car is?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

You want to make sure there is not anything weird written into the warranty and that you can use it at a Lexus dealer with Lexus parts. It also should cover the high pressure fuel system and brake actuator as well if you can find one that covers that as those are quite pricy to fix

Thanks @Striker223. I am actually looking for a better coverage that covers the components that you mentioned, but I have not been able to find one since the car is too old. If you happen to know any good coverage out there, please let me know. Thanks

I would buy an exclusionary one, if possible, such that you know exactly upfront what is not included, not so sure that you can find one for your car but it is worth a try.

The one I am thinking about getting shows pretty much anything that is not included in the coverage. The only items that are included are the ones that I listed in my initial post.
I am thinking that I may not need the coverage, unless it covers the components that are more likely to fail.

Here is what the coverages look like, but my car given its age is only qualified for the classic guard.

Even with this coverage, $1000 for 3years/36,000 miles is not too bad....keeping in mind that your car is a 2008 with 155000 miles on it.

A friend was interested in buying a '08 LS460 with 145K miles, extremely clean but without a warranty. He had it inspected at a local Toyota dealership. Worn control arms/bushings and $6100 to replace. RIDICULOUS! Toyota/Lexus must be extremely proud of their parts. He's looking for something better.

If it really is super clean then get it, an indi can replace ALL the arms under $2000

This sounds super expensive, at least I don't have to worry about those things for now.

not because they are proud of their parts, it’s the labor, it’s time consuming i know i did all my bushings. i bought oem new 2013 revised design lower arms for $180 each, very reasonable considering they are forged aluminum arms

LS460 is very expensive to maintain. One of ways to reduce the cost is to do all labor by yourself. Parts are expensive because LS460 shares very little parts (that tend to fail) with other Toyota/Lexus cars.

I can see someone doing most of the basic things, but when it comes to fixing an engine problem, this may require someone with a lot more experience.

LS460 has a reliable engine (shared with other vehicles). Change oil, air filters, spark plugs, valve cover and HP fuel pump gaskets in time. Use good quality gas and you will see no problems with it.

You are right. He said the arms listed for $185 and most of the $6100 is labor and included a 4 wheel alignment. The LS had a oil leak from the valve cover gasket and a worn front shock that wasn't included in the estimate. He passed on this LS.
