Default Driving habits survey.

I'm curious about how most here drive their 460/1UR-FSE equipped cars, I tend to drive a certain way that leads me toward considering a different maintenance interval but wanted to check to see if perhaps I'm concerned over nothing.

I am temped to adopt the same oil weight as the 2UR-GSE as well as halving the mileage intervals for everything outside of oil, with the latter remaining at 5000 miles.

Please mention any problems you have encountered with the actual drivetrain along with the following info.....mine is posted to the right of the comma. Add in yours skipping over non-relevant sections.

Mileage, 130k

Climate, Moderate temperate -20/+105

Garage stored, Yes/heated

OCI, 5k

Trans OCI, 30k

Diff OCI, 30k

Warm up period, Yes/1 minute/10 till WOT

WOT use and frequency for local driving, Yes/1-2 per 10 miles

Interstate use and speeds, Yes/100+ sustained

Hard launches, Yes at least once per drive

Limiter runs, Yes/12 so far

Cool down period, Yes if used hard

Thanks to anyone who chooses to participate, my concern and reasons for this thread are below.

I'm not too concerned with NOVAK ratings due to my 5k mile change interval nor am I too worried about VII modifiers but I am somewhat concerned a 0w-20 SN spec oil is a bit on the weak side of HTHS. Reason for this is the 2UR-GSE has identical oil clearances and is "expected" to be run much harder and despite having an oil cooler in most applications (ISF, RCF, GSF) still comes equipped with 5w-30 types oils.

This issue of clearances is further reinforced by the fact the 3UZ-FE engine is built to tighter tolerances and closer clearances than the entire UR series and is again equipped with 5w-30 type oil and that engine in particular was severely overbuilt and derived from a race engine.

This has me reasoning that if you run a normal 1UR very hard it might be worth considering to use a oil with a higher HTHS and if combined with being stored in a heated environment the cold start disadvantage would be perhaps nil.

I would definitely bump it up to a heavier weight if I were you, heck a lot of people already bump it up and they don’t drive like you.

I probably did one WOT a month when I had my LS460. Maybe 3-4 hard accelerations per week. 500 miles of commuting every week...garaged kept, temps ranging from -10 to 100 degrees. Highway speeds of 65-72 mph, mostly highway driving and easy country back roads. Very little idling in traffic, if ever, and lots of easy cruising around.

Brand name 0w20 for most of its life on 5,000-7,500 mile intervals. Car started consuming oil at around 120,000 miles...half a quart in 5,000 miles at first. But after 5,000 miles to 7,500 miles it would consume more, as if the oil had sheared into something lighter, or perhaps there might have been slight fuel dilution, I don’t know. But I cut the intervals down to 5,000 only, BUT it didn’t matter as I piled on the miles...at 150,000 miles it began consuming more than a quarter in 5,000 miles. So I bumped it up to a 0W30 - that didn’t help - by the time I had reached 170,000 miles it was drinking a quart every 700 miles or so. Traded it in with 179,000 miles. Loved that car. 2007 LS460

I kept up with all maintenance religiously...tranny fluid changes every year. Coolant at 100k. Plugs at 100k. Belt at 100k. Coolant again at 150k. Oil changes (for the most part) every 5,000 miles...car was garaged and driven pretty easy. I probably could have kept driving this thing for another 100,000 miles with the oil consumption but it needed a brake actuator too...and tires, and control arms (for the third time). I cut the cord, but believe me I mis that car everyday. I might end up buying another soon...probably a 2013-2016 model. Great cars!

In summer, I let engine idle until it drops RPM to 1.2k. If it is below 40F, I let engine run for, at least, 2 minutes before driving. I stay under 40mph and below 2.5k RPM until the engine reaches the operational temperature. I am a third owner with 170k+ miles, so far no visible engine consumption. I have put around 20k on the engine. I did switch to Mobil 1 as I was unhappy with Toyota/Lexus oil condition at 5k miles change intervals.
