Are the 3G Supported Nav's about to become bricks?
Called Lexus of Omaha today just see what the cost would be to upgrade my 2010LS 460L Navigation system to the current issue. I have the version 15.1 which I upgraded to back in 2016 when Lexus ran a special of $99 plus labor to upgrade. What he told me was don't spend the money as the 3G based Nav's which my 2010 LS is are about to be no longer supported and will no longer work. I said what and he said the cell towers are no longer going to support Nav's with 3G hardware. Has anyone else heard any thing like this? That the Nav's are about to become bricks?

I'm currently using Lexus Enform with remote start and the rep informed me that the 3G service will end in October, 2022. I like the remote start feature and I hate to loose it with my 2016.

The nav uses 3g? Huh, I figured it just uses a direct antenna to see it's position....
Oh well. Never used it anyway, a phone is better

I tried the nav on a trip from NJ to OH right after I bought my 2011, and it was terrible. It's a drive I've done many times, so I knew not to follow the nav's directions. The nav would have added at least an hour to my trip, I went back to google maps on my phone, and that was that.

I believe, it was announced a while ago that remote staring capability relying on 3g network will be phased out.

I don’t believe nav uses 3g cell towers and the person you spoke with didn’t explain the impact of the 3g retirement well.
do you pay any subscription today for enform/remote start? If no, you aren’t impacted.

Nav doesn't use 3G for directions or positioning. it uses GPS from satellites. So, 3G sunset will not disable the navigation function.
Some enforum subscription functions, such as emergency services and remote car start, will not work because it uses 3G. Lexus is already out of this business anyways.

Headunit have nothing to do with 3g/connectivity on pre-12 cars. It's DCM (data comm module/telematics transceiver) going to be obsolete. It's 3g wcdma only and handles Enform, G-book (in some countries) and stuff like SOS.

The navigation doesn't use cellular signal at all, it won't be affected

I saw a headline today listing all the cars that will be effected throughout 2022 as the 3 G networks goes away this year.
3G networks shutting down in 2022 could affect your car’s GPS (cnbc.com)
