Default 2011 LS subwoofer question

The ML sub on my 2011 LS is blown and I’m trying see what options I have.
has anyone installed a non ML factory sub instead of a ML factory sub?
from the photos they look the same and mounting looks same as well. I’m just wondering about the ohms and the connectors fitting.
The non ML sub is considerably cheaper which is my main reason for considering it. Also seems like the ML sub is not reliable

If you're certain it's the speaker and not the separate amplifier. Another option is to have the speaker rebuilt, fresh cone, etc. It may be much less money. While the photos look the same, the ML system is much higher power and the speaker's internal parts would be different from standard. A used speaker from a wrecked LS460 ML would be a perfect match. E bay sometimes has used parts for LS. Connectors are unique to Lexus as well as impedance(ohms). An aftermarket speaker may be OK, but between connector, impedance and screw pattern, you could be opening a can of worms and it may not sound the same. It's also possible a non ML speaker will "work" but could die early or sound different.

Good point about the amp! Is there a way to test if it’s the amp or the sub?

I know there are a few threads on this forum about ML amps, etc. Best to use the search function on this forum. I think it's only one amp (in the trunk, under carpet, passenger side). If memory serves me right there were some ML amp issues from about 2008-2011. There is a mail order repair service if it's the amp. United Radio, I believe. I looked on e bay and there are a couple used ML speakers for about $300.

Go to a Car audio shop and let them give you some options and ideas. Go to a top notch shop. It won't cost you nothing to hear some input first.

In short: you can NOT replace ml subwoofer with anything aftermarket - amp will blow. Just buy original, not that expensive.

This is for a 2012 IS not 2011 LS. Not sure if it will be a match.

The listed part# 86150-0W230 is correct for 2007-2017 models. It's just that the ad uses lowercase "ls".
