Just in case you are wondering when to replace the cabin air filter...
Was driving my ls400 yesterday on THE day it 80 in SF (happens about 3 days a year) and the blower stopped working! I did the obligatory hit to the blower box to get it moving and checked the cabin air filter for the 1st time since I bought 50k miles ago, car has 230k, dealer maintained to 170k. Could this be 24 years old? Oddly, my 12 ls460 with 245k filters are crazy clean! Even the "dirty" filter pic they use by the filter manufactures are cleaner!

For me... I replace the cabin air filter every fourth oil change if it needs it or not... and immediately after a purchase as part of a planned preventative maintenance cycle. Having said that... damn.... that filter is nasty and it's a good thing it's now in the trash.
On the odd chance some of you haven't done a cabin filter change on a lexus... make sure you follow the user manual and run the AC in re-circulation mode for a minute or so before you start the replacement.
Be safe =)

Not sure how it works on the old LS400 but on later cars it's important to put the system into "Recirculate" mode before you open it up.
