OK- so my 144k '08 needs rear shocks (I think!) Is the general consensus that the KYB Gas A-Just shocks at RockAuto are the correct ones to maintain OEM ride quality?
Thanks!

OE is the best option by far assuming all other parts are not worn. It also very hard to tell if the new shocks are really so much better since you usually move from a blown out old one....
If you don't want OE ride then get a high end coilover, $400 a corner or more for something of the same quality as OE

The fact that both are made by KYB, it is like saying that LS460 is made by Toyota which is true but it is more complicated than that.

Lots of good points being made here.
KYB makes good shocks
KYB makes a shock model to Lexus specs, they are different than Gas A Just.
Any new shock will feel great after you've been driving on worn shocks.
Different springs will affect the ride feel dramatically compared to shocks.
If you only need and want to replace shocks, Lexus and/or KYB are good choices.

This thread got me thinking, when I first purchased my 07 LS460L, the front air struts were replaced with Arnott struts instead of the OEM air strut which is over twice as much money per strut compared to the Arnotts which seems to be constructed very well from the looks of it as the rubber bladder is made by Continental.
But I believe the rears on mine could be original as they do look very old. I also notice the ride is a little firmer up front overall compared to the rears on how the car rides. I think the OEM spec air-struts probably ride even softer because they are specifically tuned for the LS and at the time was geared more towards riding softness.
So it comes down to cost, I would never spend $3-4,000 on rear air struts, this is why the day that I’m going to have replace the rears, they will be Arnotts at like $650 each I believe, which is still crazy expensive but better than close to $4k with parts/labor and tax included if I choose the OEM route.
You could go with OEM LS460 struts, but what for when the KYB’s will be way cheaper and are most likely spec’s close the original ride quality.
I remember when I first test drove a low mileage SWB 09 LS460, that car had an even softer floatier suspension than my 07 LWB with air suspension in comfort mode. So maybe the OEM non-air struts are tuned for a boaty ride I am guessing? Almost reminded me of driving a 70’s Cadillac, It was super smooth.
