2010 LS460L Buying Guide
Looking at 2010 LS460L with about 120K miles. Anything I should watch out for? Such as air suspension, control arms, timing belt? Looks like a clean vehicle from Lexus, 1-owner.

There is no timing belt but all other things and much more. Use, search to find a detailed list.

At this mileage, if the air shocks haven't been replaced, it's likely to happen before 175k if not sooner. Unless they have been, be prepared for an expensive repair. A prepurchase inspection by a Lexus knowledgeable shop is wise. Have the control arms and ball joints inspected and look for oil and coolant leaks. Go to drivers.lexus.com log in and enter VIN to see dealer maintenance history. If it's been well maintained, that's good.

I have this same model and year. There are a lot of threads here where people are asking what to look out for on 2010-2012, I'd suggest digging in using the search function. Quickly from experience with my car:
- brake actuator - $3k+ expense if it goes bad. Mine went bad at 99k but was covered under a replacement program which has since expired.
- interior replacement - check VIN to see if this was performed. This is the ZLZ program for replacing sticky panels. I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have this done based on what happened to my interior over time - the ZLZ gives you a brand new interior.
- control arms
- if the car has air suspension (mine doesn't), prepare for that to be something needing to be replaced soon. I believe this is pretty pricey.
- spark plugs are due every 60-90k I believe, I'd verify they were done pre 100k.
- valve cover gasket leak - something to be aware of but I'm at 140k miles and no issues. You'd want to have it inspected to see if oil is leaking from this area.
If you love the car, pay for an inspection looking into the above things. If it checks out, buy it. If you have a few warning signs on high ticket items, I'd likely pass. The 460 can have some costly repairs, even at an indy shop. I speak from experience.

I think the service history looks great! Just hard to find those major/expensive items listed.

If the rear shocks are new, likely the fronts are going to need replacement, along with front suspension and axel. That could be a $5k or more expense. Try negotiating that these repairs get done.

Were you able to see the service history on the Lexus Drivers site? I saw the history and the rear shocks have been replaced and the battery has been replaced 3 times. I also noticed that the front control arms has been documented that they are bad and need to be replaced but that service has been declined 3 times. The front axel was also noted bad. Things that make you go, hmmmm....

Good point about selling to the next uninformed buyer. But it can't hurt to ask. Part of successful negation is being able to back your offer with facts and research.

Thanks all!! Seems like it's a lot of potential repairs going to happened. This is sold by a Lexus dealership, but they couldn't answer any of my questions on the big items been done. Just said the have it all checked and all looks good. Then gave me the service history and we can see in Lexus Driver.
For reference. Asking price is $20K. 120K miles. What do you think?

I wouldn't buy this without a third party mechanical inspection. If they won't allow this, then I'd look elsewhere.

For $20k and 120k miles on a 12 year old car, it better have every single thing fixed. That seems insanely high to me. I paid $22k for my '10 460L back in Feb 2017 and it had 70k miles. I know things are crazy right now in the used car market, but that seems ultra crazy.
With you being in TX and the extreme heat there, I honestly would not consider a car where the interior panels weren't replaced under the ZLZ program. With this car being at Lexus, they can easily look that up to see if it was done. On a 2010, that program has expired (you'd have to pay about $7k out of pocket to replace all of the panels that Lexus was replacing for free). The interior panels discolor and literally fall off in chunks. This impacts your arm rests, panel under the instrument clusters, glove box, etc. It's basically anything that isn't leather.
