Default Rear Air Shocks Dead After 15k Miles?

Greetings from Ireland, where I have my 2007 LS460 on Air.

I bought it with the rear shocks having been replaced 15k miles ago, with a 2500 euro receipt from Lexus Dublin.

Now my car has not passed it's yearly test, with the testers saying it has an imbalance in the rear axle, which is down to the shocks. My indy looked at it and said there is a height difference in the two sides which is causing that, but that to me does not indicate the shocks are done, and I just simply don't believe that to be the case as I have not seen leaking, or anything of the like. Shocks are about 18 months old but the warranty is up, after 12 months.

To me, something like techstream could be used to 'reset' the heights, or perhaps it's an actual height sensor.

Thought I would ask the wise wizards of clublexus so I can avoid being screwed, and not in the way I like

Cheers

It is unlikely for OEM air struts to fail so early. You can measure the distance between wheels and wheel wells just after you park and then overnight. If the suspension is leaking, you will see a difference between the measurements. I suspect and you mentioned that too, that the suspension height needs to be adjusted. You will need Techstream for that, as you already know.

I would try using the height high switch on the console to cycle the system a few times between high and normal, if you haven't already tried that.
If you have techstream you can "tell" the system you have replaced a component and there will be some type of check/reset but the cycling from high to low with appropriate time for the system to change should make a difference if the system is in good condition.

The rear height adjusters are very easy to get to from behind the wheels, put an index mark on the centreline of the adj nut to the adjuster frame for reference if you try that.
The mount/frame of the rear adjusters come with 3 index marks on them but you will have to clean them before they will be visible.

Still have this problem, would you believe. The car failed it's yearly mandatory test here and did not pass on the retest.

I took to the dealership who replaced the shocks previously, and they said they can't see anything wrong, and it's potentially the 'test equipment' that is wrong.

That is a long shot, as it's a standardized test, and I don't have a whole lot of faith in the skills of that particular dealership.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Get a written statement from dealership showing that you attempted a repair. Get another inspection and present the letter or receipt.

The dealership replaced the shocks, assuming the suspension is certified OEM it has a warranty, and the dealer is also liable for any problems that arise from their shoddy mechanics. This is why they are trying to blame someone else.
Take it to an independent garage or another Lexus garage who will confirm that Lexus Dublin screwed up.

It's a hack in techstream but try this just to get past inspections. At least you can even out the two sides while you deal with the stealership:
