Where to Sell?
I have a pristine 2016 LS 460 L AWD with just shy of 39K miles. It is truly in pristine condition as it was purchased as a CPO less than 2 years ago. Used as a trade in it has value but I know it will then be sold to someone for way more than the trade in. My goal is for both myself and the buyer to benefit from a private sale but have no idea whether this even possible in today's environment? Of course the sales price has to cover the sales tax savings I would enjoy from a trade. Any ideas? Thanks

Of course it is possible! Write a comprehensive ad with quality photos and post it on this site or (for a small fee) autotrader.com or the like. Price it a tad less than dealer retail (to give some room for negotiation).
I Iisted my LS 600h on a Thursday last December and my phone blew up with responses. 4 days later a buyer flew in from out of state, paid the asking price, and took it home.

The biggest issue is the high $ value. Most people get financing and are in the habit of going through a dealer because of that. In plain terms, you'll find more buyers for a $8000 car than a $40,000 car. Not saying it's impossible, just be prepared for a slow process. Let buyers know you have maintenance records and cooperate if they want to get a prepurchase inspection. The previous post was selling a 2010 car, not a 2016. Also, the safest way to sell to a cash buyer is go to their bank with them while they get a cashier's check. That way you're assured it's not counterfeit. TRED.com is a site to list and sell cars with higher prices. I bought my current car this way.

I sold my 2014 LS460 F Sport to Carvana. They paid me $500 more for the car than I paid for it. Don't know if that holds true today, but it's easy to check. Go to Carvana, enter your vin, answer the questions and see what they offer. From there you'll have an idea of value and what you should do.

For fun, I just got offers for my 2014 460L AWD.
Carvana 21,000
Autotrader Instant Cash offer 28,660 (with a couple of dealers calling me within 5 minutes of receiving the offer)
Clean Trade-in price is 31-32K (KBB, NADA)
Clean retail price is 33-35K (KBB, NADA)
I recommend getting offers from multiple sites.
