Hello gentlemen and members, I’m new here and to Lexus. I always loved them but never appreciated them till I start working at a big franchise repair shop that I barley see a Lexus IS in for repair, besides oil changes and tires and alignment, we don’t see them.

That gave me the confidence to pull the trigger and take delivery today on an LS460 2008 with 114k miles, I 5est drive the car, every thing worked as it should till on my way home. All break lights and traction control and VSC came on and I feel pulsing and throbbing in the brake pedal, every time I push the breaks. And it’s more noticeable at low speed, like vibrating.

I immediately called my sales person and he said to bring it back, they’re not a Lexus dealer but a Hyundai big franchise dealer in MCKinney Texas amd I don’t think they would screw me over.

im heading there first thing in the morning, what should I expect. A whole ABS pump or it could be a glitch that occur so often in German cars that I’m used to. Also BT doesn’t want to sync and pair with my phone. Did I buy a lemon.

thanks all for your advise in advance.

Imo return it or price in a $3k-4k repair. Random fault clearing isn't normal or common. The brake actuator faults when cleared can take a hundred miles to return.

If you trust the dealer I'd guess it was a faulty trade in. Previous owner possibly cleared faults before the trade.

This is why a pre purchase inspection is always a good idea. As mentioned, be prepared for an expensive repair, based on your description of issues. There's no guarantee that any dealer goes over a used car carefully before selling it.

Thanks so much for your input. I will be heading there shortly. I think a return is best cuz I’m not ready for that much of an expensive repair. Also after purchasing a full coverage on it considering my age and record, I’m having second thoughts. 44 year old married in Texas and no fault accident over w years ago, 260/month is just ripoff and I’d rather not put my self in such situation.

Thanks for the advise.

I understand and this particular car has the potential for repairs that should have been done before selling. Once these things are fixed, it'll be a great car. The LS is a great car that can be enjoyable and worry free. Yes, there are members who report, many years and miles with no expensive repairs. But, human nature is to talk about problems, making it seem like a bad model.
An ES350 isn't as luxurious a ride, but is still a very nice car for less money, so is the RX350.
BTW, Costco has great insurance rates for car and home in CA. Might be that way in TX as well.

I totally understand how it could be cheaper in California as I moved from there three years ago and had, 7 series and 5 series and E55 in the past and my insurance was never any were near 200 plus dollars,I also lived in las Vegas for a year and now Dallas for 2 and both these cities or shall I say Texas and Nevada states, have higher policy limits and also higher premiums due to rates of accidents are high.

I cant rant enough, if I started talking about how people drive here in Dallas, way above speed limit, on their phones, swerving and no turn signal; what so ever when changing lanes and yet I thought California drivers where wreck less and irresponsible, come see Dallas in full size pickup trucks 2500s and similar going 90MPH plus and changing 3 lanes with out turning on his/her signal. I sold my touring BMW K1200LT motorcycle for a reason.

Last but not least of course what’s was expected to happen, happens. 5 minutes before arrival to the dealer, all the malfunctioning lights turned off and so I decided to keep the car, once I have it checked at my work tomorrow with my master technician at the shop and if everything checks out right, I’m keeping this land yacht, that I truly love and enjoying every bit of it and if not , then I will be returning it.

thanks again

Please read the FAQ above left. It will give you an idea of what mechanic should look at. EG: control arms hub torn, as well as the OBD codes and noises produced from brake actuator and pump, etc. Also, sign into drivers.lexus.com and input the VIN and you can review dealer repairs and maintenance including the ZLZ sticky dash program. This is standard advice from the forum members.

OP, my spidey senses are tingling and telling me, that you're potentially in for 5k+ of repairs (abs dont fix itself, control arms dont grow back and struts won't autorepair). Looks like it's been dumped your way by a d-head seller.

I did signed up and I I put the vin and it won’t retrieve any history, OP. I checked the car to day visually and tested the battery, the battery didn’t need to be replace and the brakes are working fine, I just don’t know if it was just a glitch, which I’m used to in German cars, not the Lexus though. Thanks

These generally don't glitch, they only throw those lights when something goes wrong for real. You are likely on a very marginal actuator

Glad you tried the Lexus site. It sometimes doesn't load properly and I can't access maintenance history either. Hope you can try a couple more times as the history can tell you what kind of recalls and repairs had been done. It shows Lexus and Toyota dealer work, not independent shops. So don't be alarmed if there's good history the first four years of it's life and not much afterward as many people go to indy shops once warranty is up. I do feel Boykie has a point about those lights came on for a reason and am keeping my fingers crossed for best outcome here. As mentioned, if the trouble codes are erased, it can take a good 100 miles to trip them again.Keep us posted.
Here's one of YouTube videos about brake booster sounds

Thanks so much for the input, I have the car checked at my shop with my master technician as a PPI (pre purchase inspection) and then some with a snap on scanner monitoring all the modules and reading them and everything checked fine, also I re shopped insurance and ended up changing to progressive and I will be paying 1/2 of what I was gonna pay.

so I’m pleased over all and looking forward couple hundred thousand miles out of this sleeper land yacht.

it’s a blast to drive.
