Please let me know status of mileage and over consumption oil riders
Hi all,
I have 2.5 quarts over consumption of engine oil at 1000 miles. I’m just wondering how long would the engine last by keep adding additive and just adding engine oil?
would it last another 70,000 miles?
my current mileage is at 189,000. Dealer tells me to replace engine but no way…. I just got my rims done…
i reallly appreciate your current status report and how many mileage you have out on top from starting over consumption date.
thank you

If oil consumption is due to worn valve stem guides, it can go a long time. There are oil additives that may help if stem guides are hardened, but not torn.
If due to worn rings, it’s hit or miss, depends on piston ring wear rate. Try next thicker oil grade.
If due to blown head gasket, not very long.
If your engine has original PCV valve, a new one may help with reduce oil consumption.

when the engine breaks down I hope the MBI insurance covers the problem.

2.5 quarts every 1,000 miles is a lot. I’d suggest going to conventional oil and a much thicker viscosity...say a 40 weight oil...5w40, something like that. As long as you don’t live in a very cold climate you should be able to use something heavier. You might get another 75,000-100,000 out of that engine if it works and reduces consumption by half, otherwise I’d say you'll lose your catalytic converters to the oil consumption...you’ll start getting misfires and fouling plugs, you’re probably already losing compression and fuel economy, but if it’s not noticeable who cares? The goal is to get this car to 250,000-300,000 miles. You could also try one on the many piston soak products to free up the rings, probably couldn’t hurt. Good luck.

I put the additive so let me observe the consumption. Will look into thicker oil as well as piston soak products. I probably won’t drive 10,000 a year so hopefully can reach up to 300,000 miles. Thank you!

If pressure was all that matters you wouldn't ever need to return the oil to the pan and pump it through again......if oil lingers too long in one place it will overheat and sheer. The 1UR-FSE is not intended to work with an oil heavier than Xw-30 of whatever brand due to pump clearance, bearing clearance, and overall oil demands.
People have already killed enough engines trying 40/50 weight oils so don't add to it. You should always use the lightest oil you can use that still gets you good pressure and has enough load carting capacity for load to parts size ratio of the engine you have. The lighter the better provided it meets those other requirements and you can control the heat via an oil cooler or equivalent
