Default How to release these splash shield clips?

Here are pics of the clip in question...

This pic from under the splash shield. I believe the clip is released. But how to do that? Is there a special tool?

This image is from the same clip but above a removed splash shield.

The push button head is missing. Look under hood at clips to see what an unbroken one looks like. You press the center button to release and the entire round "washer" type piece comes out. You reset them by puling out the center button while spreading the inside prongs.

Thanks swfla for helping me. I think we might have our wires crossed somehow. I don't doubt that there was originally a push button. The ones that hold the splash shields in place on my 09 seem to attach to a 6mm stud. There is a big washer thing (about 1.5 inch dia) like you mentioned tho.

This pic shows what I think is the end of a metal stud, at the center; so I'm looking for a clip that attaches to a small dia stud.

My front fender cover (under driver's feet) is missing. I think this is a stud for attaching that cover.

Look under hood at clips to see what an unbroken one looks like.
I did that, almost all of mine are missing and the few present are not correct. Still, not one of the engine / battery covers uses a clip that attaches to a metal stud. I also looked on the engine side of the hood itself. Those do not appear to be a pressbutton type situation. They are pristine so I didn't want to mess with them too much.

Unthreading the plastic washer was a fail - so far.

Any further advice is appreciated... A

With the new photos, I can see what you're saying. Under hood clips don't attach to metal studs. Maybe someone else can help.
