2007 LS460 - Front Lower COntrol Arms/Wheel Bearing, Hub Replacement Quote
Hey all. First time poster. I got a quote from a really good shop and was curious as to if this is reasonable. I called a friend of mine and he said that it was high and if I bought the parts he could do it in 1 day and charge me $550. Below is the quote, and also pictures of what I think the correct parts would be to complete the job. *Side note* Shop told me the bearing/hub I i need is the ABS sensor model. Any insight much appreciated.

These are the parts I'm considering purchasing for my friend to do the job. Are these correct?

Reason: updated info
I just replaced a front wheel bearing on my 2007 a couple months ago. The first shop I went to gave me the same ABS story with a $600 + part price tag. I called local Lexus and they said they didn’t understand the ABS distinction. I went to Rock Auto and didn’t see an ABS reference there and purchased a SKF bearing for around $200. I had a different shop install for $200 and so far, so good. The bearing was seized in the knuckle pretty good. The mechanic said he had all the parts out of the way for the bearing removal in about 10 minutes , and then spent the next 40 minutes beating on it with a hammer to get it out. Not a fun job.
Looks like the right parts but only you know if you input accurate car description. Members here have several valid points. OEM is going to give you the best function and long life. We don't know if your friend has the tools and knowledge to do the job (great price for the job). Both the control arm ball joint and wheel hub can be a challenge to remove. Why aren't you replacing the upper control arms while you have it apart? You will also require an alignment afterwards, it's tricky on the LS, not all shops know how to do it correctly.
I had a tough time getting my right front wheel bearing out of my 2007 LS...this was years ago now. But it was seized in there pretty good. Do yourself a favor, buy a good replacement bearing or you could end up doing the job twice - Beck Arnley bearing failed within 7,000 miles on me - had to do it over using an OE bearing (and that lasted me 80,000 miles or so until I traded it in).
And in my opinion the quote for the bearing repair you received is ridiculous.
- Timken or Moog bearings are as good as it gets for aftermarket.
- See if you can find Moog front end parts. Either that or Lexus parts.
- Yours should come out pretty easily unless they salt the roads.
- Torque on the mounting bolts for the hub assembly is critical. If improperly torqued it will not last no matter bearing manufacturer.
I'm w/ the ones who say keep it OEM. I just replaced both front Air struts & all C arms using OEM, and man she rides like the flagship she is!
IF you're sticking w/ OEM, I have a brand new, still in package FR lower C arm part #48660-59025. I'll beat any online pricing shipped! PM me if interested.

Please elaborate why it’s more difficult aligning our cars vs let’s say an E class. Since only the toe is adjustable, what other factors are there to getting a proper alignment?
There are adjustments to frame crosspieces that are part of the alignment. Sounds odd but it's true. There are some threads about this. Several members suggest Lexus to do the alignment as they know how for certain. I'm sure there are others that are knowledgeable as well. But, as I said, not all shops know how. I don't know about MB E class alignment to compare.

Mine is going to Lexus tomorrow at 7, I'm not interested in spending $40k to diy it and I'll never ever see that money back on customer cars. They shouldn't need to mess with shims but if they do that's a them problem

Yeah, it involves loosening the subframe, adjusting. Hard to believe, but true.
