Default 07 epb

Hey guys,

I’ve been looking all over for a solution to this issue, and haven’t found it yet!

I just purchased a 07 RWD with 170k on the dash. Noticed the amp and parking brake didn’t work. Took a look on the forums and read that water damage could destroy the units. Sure enough, that’s what happened to mine. So, I replaced the amp with no issue, and ordered a EPB unit (orange/brown). For some reason, it will not work!

Most that I’ve seen with this issue say that the PARK light flashes. Mine does not. In fact, if I push or pull the lever or the Auto button, it does absolutely nothing. I tried using Techstream to reach the Parking Brake ECU, and it says that it’s not available. Message on the dash is “Check Parking Brake System.”

I will say that I checked the 30amp fuse for the unit, and it was blown. When I replaced the fuse, it immediately blew again, this was before I replaced the control unit. After replacing the control unit, the fuse stays in tact.

So my question is, what am I missing? Is there anything else I need to check? Codes coming up are u1106, and u0128 under the advance parking and ABS diag.

Any help would be appreciated.

Will do. What’s the best method to depin the connectors if need be? I just checked them and there are signs on the rear of corrosion.

Amazon has a wide selection of tools for that. Starting at $6. It's possible some wires are shorting as well. That requires a tedious visual inspection along with the help of a multimeter. Start with connectors. The fuse blowing without control unit connected points to a short. Connecting the unit may prevent fuse from blowing but still won't work due to a short. If the EPB was used, it could be bad. If it was new, it could have been damaged from the short when you installed it.

Is there more than just the 30 amp in the trunk?

How did the water get into both sides of your trunk?

If the car lives outside and the drain paths are never cleaned water builds up on the glass and then over the lip and into the trunk tray. If the tray is also dirty/full of leaves the water can run over top an old seal and just ruin everything inside.

Im not sure, as I’ve just purchased the vehicle. I’ve been doing some digging around and replaced the weather stripping as a precaution.

So checking the connector, there was a fair amount of unseen corrosion on a few of the terminals after I popped them out, and one pin even broke off of the wire. And unfortunately, the terminal block crumbled so I’m looking at replacing that now, which probably would've been best anyway.

So now my next quest is to find a junk yard car and cut the connector, and possibly splice the cables into my old harness. I’m not sure how feasible this may be but outside of that, I’d be replacing the entire harness for that one connection.

Splicing used cables takes time and talent. But it's likely OK, cheaper and easier than running a new harness, generally speaking. Trace the damaged harness, it might plug into another harness a few feet away or it might run the length of the car.

You guys are AWESOME. I got it working now. Spliced a new connector and replaced the ECUB2 fuse (it was definitely blown) and she’s working again!

Definitley wouldn’t have known about the other fuse or thought about hidden corrosion. I appreciate all of you!!
