CEL Check PCS TRAC OFF P0159 Bad Battery? Day Later CEL Disappeared
Hi,
Hope everyone had a good long weekend.
I purchased my 17 LS 460 back in June 2022, previous driver didn’t drive a lot, it only had 16K miles now it’s at 21K.
Never had a problem until yesterday morning on my way to the gym the light came on. Along with signs “Check PCS SYSTEM” and “TRAC OFF”.
I took the car to an Autozone to do a quick scan and two codes came up, one of was a bad battery cell that won’t charge but under the “CarFax detail” it indicated that the battery was replaced in 2021. The other code was P0159 for 02 sensor as far as I can understand, the guy from Autozone tested the battery but he didn’t seem very knowledgeable to be honest so I’m not sure.
This morning I was planning on taking it to a dealer in the afternoon, I turned on the car and——CEL disappeared! My question is should I still take it in ASAP? I’m gonna take it in anyways maybe at the end of week or next week only because dealer is far away, and I have to be near the dealer area in a few days. But I thought I should check with you guys first and see what’s something I might have missed.
Thank you!

I was somehow hoping it’s nothing since it’s only at 21K…
What’s the general consensus for CEL disappearing on its own? Does it usually come back or is it a good sign that’s probably just computer glitch.
BTW car drives fine, if anything I know it was just in my head…

Welcome to the forum. LS is an electronically complicated car. There is a problem with car, it's not in your head. While a fairly new battery is unlikely to go bad, it can and does happen. During COVID, many people had battery issues because when the car is parked for days, unused, there is still battery draw. This goes on long enough and can ruin a battery. It may have been the previous owner who did this. Also a weak battery will cause electronic issues. So, Lexus dealer is typically very expensive for everything. A new battery will cost you $250-300. While going to an auto parts store is a great way to test a battery, sometimes they have rookies working there. A bad battery can also cause a false O2 sensor reading.
If this were my car, I'd go to a different shop to get the battery tested. If it tests weak, replace it. It should cost no more than $175 installed. Then I'd drive it for a few hundred miles to let the computer reset itself to the new battery and see if you continue to get a code for anything.
Let us know how it goes and we'll try to give you advice to save money and aggravation.

Brought to my mechanic and he said with no CEL on he can’t really do much, as he didn’t want to replace something that might have no problem at all. And if CEL comes back then bring it in it’s an easy fix.
It’s been 5 days and 250 miles still no lights, don’t notice anything different either.
Would like to bring to a Lexus dealer for the diagnosis but they charge about $150 lol…

Check battery terminals and make sure it is clean and installed properly. What kind of battery do you have?
