My 2007 LS 460L just had it’s 200K oil change at the Lexus dealer. I also had to get some hoses changed relating to emissions. The looked over my car and found it to be in good shape. They recommended a spark plug change at the time and found the plugs are the original spark plugs, I have no issues with the car starting & running very smoothly. Should I replace these original spark plugs at 200K miles?

How did they determine that they were the original plugs? Lexus has a requirement to change them at 60K to maintain your engine warranty which runs out a 100K? Were they just the original model/brand of plug? I had mine changed at 60K but it was not done at a Lexus dealership and it is listed in my service history. So how do they know?

Since there are no records of a plug change, you just don't know if they are original. Most folks would have changed plugs before this mileage. A dealer will charge you $$$$$ for this. Plugs can be purchased from Rock Auto for about $130 plus 2-3 hours labor. (130 + 100/hr = $330-430). At 200k you may need new foam boots at the plugs also. As your car runs fine, take the time to DIY or find a shop to quote you a price.

If those are indeed the original plugs and you have 200K on the LS and it is still runs fine that just goes to show what a rip off Lexus is inflicting on LS owners by requiring the plugs be changed at 60K.

If they have been in there for 200K miles, I hope they all come out OK.

My 460 is running fine. I pulled a plug to check gap. The gap was fine. The car has 165k on it. I'll check again at 200k. If the gap is good don't waste money on new plugs.

Lexus service person said the wiring can lose some of it’s effectiveness as it ages and should be changed. It’s a hard call when you are not experiencing any issues relating to the spark plugs tho. I do believe in preventive maintenance.

While the plugs may last for over 200k, other related components may not last. Plug wires, dielectric grease, foam boots. As mentioned, wait too long and corrosion can freeze the plug in place. The real problem here IMO, is the amount of labor time/cost and difficulty that makes this maintenance item unpalatable. DJWLDW has a good point. Cave Dog presents a reasonable approach, if one is disciplined to check regularly.

just an added note. As the plug ages, the gap gets wider, that in turn makes the system need to jump the wider gap, leading to igniter problems over the long haul.... Better to to just do the maintenance as required....just my opinion....
